All the teachers and staff at GECA are outstanding but special thanks to Kamala Wood and Elaine Carne, both voted teacher of the year!

Teacher effectiveness: Very effective
October 26, 2015
Absolutely top notch teachers! They're the cream of the crop and absolutely devoted to their students. We're going into our third year at the school now and I'm still pleasantly surprised to see all the teachers at parent club meetings and social events for the students.

Amount of homework: Just right
October 26, 2015
The homework is challenging but the school teaches organization and offers tools to the student to help them manage their workload.

Develops grit: Strongly agree
October 26, 2015
Absolutely, this is a challenging program that only the most ambitious of students are accepted into. Determination to succeed is one of the driving forces behind GECA's success

Develops respect: Strongly agree
October 26, 2015
The students are treated with respect by their classmates and the school staff. They learn by example how to treat others.

Develops empathy: Strongly agree
October 26, 2015
Absolutely. The school requires that each student earn a minimum of 20 community service hours each year. These can be earned volunteering at local non-profits such as St. Joseph's, the community center, tutoring, counseling at summer camps or in various other community programs. An excellent way for students to learn empathy and compassion for others.

Develops honesty: Strongly agree
October 26, 2015
The students are held to a high standard of honesty and integrity at GECA. They are treated fairly and expected to set a good example. If a problem arises, it is dealt with by the student tribunal. The tribunal is made up of students in their peer group who have the maturity and leadership skills to address the issues.

Our son is in his third year at GECA and we couldn't be more pleased with the school. He is free to grow and learn in an environment free from the pressures of bullying, cliques, negative peer pressure, burned out teachers and disruptive classmates who don't care about their education. The classes at GECA are challenging and organized, the teachers are devoted and accessible, the students are supportive of each other and serious about their studies, and the entire staff at the school treats the students like responsible adults. These fundamental factors are the key to the success of GECA. It's an exciting program and we hope to see it continue to grow and flourish. Thank you GECA!!

I attended and graduated from this program. I entered a year late but was able to get my AS a semester after graduatin. Academically, this school is intense and obviously top-notch. I have to award this school for how far I've been able to go with my education. Don't discount the toll it can take on the mind, though. Support is essential, and the school cannot effort enough qualified counselors. Before enrolling, get your family on board with the unbeatable stress it can cause. It is not easy. It makes you break down and cry more often than you ever will after. You won't sleep, eat enough or get enough exercise. You will most likely kiss straight As goodbye and if your parents don't understand the rigorous curriculum it will royally suck. The anxiety and pressure can very easily get out of control. I don't know if it is worth it at age 21, but if you want excellent education, this is your only choice in the Gilroy area. Just please don't ignore your health. It is critical to learn how to deal with things at this age and this school doesn't have a course in teaching you how to handle the unending anxiety or anything useful for emotional wellbeing.

GECA is by far the best high school in the area. GECA offers a family based environment where every student knows everybody, and every student puts forward the effort to learn. Teachers understand each student, and thanks to small class sized, know every student's needs. GECA holds the rank of 6th best school in California, and holds a solid 926 API score. Statistics don't lie. Unless you hate learning, this is the best school for anyone that can commute to it.

This is a challenging school but it beats the average high school experience. students get to have their classes on the beautiful Gavilan Campus that has them connected to nature. the teachers are all friendly and want all the students to succeed. friends are made ther much easier than at a regular high school and one can always express thmselves as they wish. all of that and by the time they graduate from high school they will also have achieved either an A.A. degree or an A.S. degree. saving them ( and parents from having to pay) two whole years of college! great school.
