Willma Cavitt Junior High School

Teachers, Resources and Principal are fantastic. Parents are in denial about bully problem and not involved. It is the same 10- or so parents who are frequently involved at the school. Rumors are abound with lack of supervision of parents at home. It is a shame because the faculty is superb.

I am a 7th grade parent and I need to commend them for the balance they keep between being highly supportive of students and maintaining high standards for students. I also love the Principal as she is visible, seems to enjoy the students and really cares for each student and family. I cannot recommend this school more - it is a wonderful junior high!

My husband and I agree Cavitt is a great school. The classes are challenging, yet fun. My kids all have fond memories of their time at Cavitt. I still have one going there, and like the older ones, he too will be well prepared for GBHS.

After reading the most recent review; I just had to say something. Last night was the graduation ceremony for the 8th graders. All I can say is that we have been delighted with Cavitt! The ceremony was wonderful, just like the 2 years we've been there. The teachers are all friendly and a cohesive group. All you had to do was see them all sitting there with the principal and asst. principal to know that. We have never found the teachers to be rude. I heard a parent complain that a teacher may be strict or that they have such high expectations or that they enforce the dress code.....isn't that what we want for our kids. Clearly, that shows they care! Keep up the great work Cavitt; we'll miss you!

The teachers are rude. My student went on independent studies when we were out of town and the teacher forgot to give her something so he failed her on it! She NEVER even received the assignment! When I go into the office no one even acknowledges me. There are fights way to often. I feel like they are not very organized and need to be more on top of things.

I am so impressed with how the school handled a situation yesterday as they notified all families that we needed to have discussions with our children regarding respect and cooperation. The office staff and adminstration is easily accessible and has worked with us on a couple of different sitautions. Though there are areas to be improved, we are highly pleased with the level of care the teachers, administrators and other staff demonstrate for our child and the school.

I have had wonderful expierences this year with the adminstration and teachers. I have been impressed with the level of communication from the office and the high expectations the staff have for students. There are things that have to be worked on; but, I know that they are focusing on improvement under the new leadership. Thank goodness I didn't listen to the gossip - it's been wonderful!

I gave this school 2 stars because it has great science teachers and a few great core teachers. Other than that, this school needs so many changes I can't even begin to list them all. The culture is oppressive, the math department is sub-par, and the administration needs a shake up. Fortunately the district knows and might be working on something.

We have had a very positive experience at Cavitt this year. Our daughter is about to finish 7th grade, and her GPA has gone UP this year and she feel much more confident academically. Her test-taking skills have also risen. The new principal is wonderful, and most of the teachers are fantastic. The few times we've contacted the school about any concerns, they have been addressed immediately. My daughter enjoys Cavitt a lot.

So far, we've been very happy with this school. My daughter has an IEP, so we are very involved in her daily educational needs. She had a slightly bumpy start....placement with the wrong type of core teacher, but the school listened and has done everything possible to make this a good transition for our daughter from elementary school. They revised her entire schedule to better accommodate her needs. We are very happy so far!

Fantastic school. The teachers my daughter had were wonderful, they were very enthusiastic, involved and supportive. The teacher moral is outstanding! The principal is also very supportive and involved. Great experience!

I loved Cavitt. The teachers were approacheable and concerned. The school is in a beautiful and safe location. We used to go swimming at Folsom Lake for P.E. lessons!

I have two girls attending 7th grade, and I have attended most of the school functions for parents, both with and without my children present. I have also met most of their teachers. In general, I have been impressed by the intelligence and dedication of the teachers. I have also been pleased with the level and quality of homework I see coming home every night. At one of the intro meetings for parents at the beginning of the school year we were told that we would be directly contacted 'at least once or twice by every teacher at some point during the year'. I believe we have been contacted once, by one teacher. I am not too concerned with this, however, since my girls seem to be doing very well anyway. My wife has had more contact than I with the school, so please consider my comments in that context.
