Greenville is moving in the right direction with the only school in Plumas County to have its enrollment increasing from 94 to 110 students. 2011 STAR scores are up 19 points. The Culinary Arts program won 2nd. place in state competition and our science teacher won Region 12 "Teacher of the Year". The athletic department is expanding programs into jr. high schooll and wrestling is looking as if it will happen. GHS last year sent more students, per population, than anyother school in Plumas County and had a 97% high school exit exam success. School spirit, along with some orange and black paint, is moving in the right direction. Keep up the the great work GHS!
I currently have two high school students attending GHS. Although the school enviroment is VERY safe, I would NOT recommend this school. The teachers here (with the exception of a couple) are not teaching the subjects proficiently or in depth enough, in order for our children to be properly prepared for college. There is very few activities and/or clubs, (they do however have a great Jazz Band and Culinary Arts program) and the sports programs are PATHETIC! There has been NO leadership, continuity, or stability in the Administration, as there seems to be a new Principal every year. This has caused poor teaching habits and little accountability for the teachers and most of the staff. I am told this will all change with the addition of our new principal, but of course I have heard that before!
I was a student at GHS, I graduated from there. I feel the shool is not up to par. There were a few good teachers, but the majority acted as though teaching was a hardship, pushed on them like jury duty. I feel that I would have been much further ahead in my education if I would have attended a different school. If ou are reading this rating, reconsider what you are thinking of doing. There are absolutley no opportunities in Greenville, and GHS is no institution of excellence. If you believe that your child has potential and promise, Greenville and GHS can only subtract from his/her future and success.
Greenville Junior/Senior High School (GHS) has some of the most dedicated and caring teachers I have ever seen. A Natural Resources program is being weaved into the school's curriculum with major themes and there are several all school and specific class student field trips bringing the students into their local forests and watersheds to learn about, help protect and monitor these areas. The staff at GHS has been a major reason that this program has been successful so far and because of their dedication and hard work during and after school hours, the students are becoming more connected to their community and the mountainous landscape surrounding it and having a lot of fun on the field trips.
Greenville jr/sr high school is fully accredited with WASC and offers a comprehensive and challenging curriculum fully aligned with the state standards, local graduation requirements and college entrance criterion. Small class sizes and a staff commited to student learning allow individual attention and support as needed. Students are aprised every three weeks of their grades. In addition to a fine academic program, GHS also exels in art, music, a full natural resources program, and food service classes. Many of our staff are GHS grads, and several teachers have considerable tenure.
