I like this school, and if your child is seeking this school you should consider coming here he/she would like it. Their are lockers, but only available to the 8th grades. And there is no bulling at this school, everybody is simply nice.
My two daughters have attending this school for the last four years and it has been a pleasure to watch the Principal and Vice Principal (hired three years ago) their jobs and make positive changes. The school was always a bright spot in the district, but now it feels like all of the players are working together to support and teach their students. I especially appreciate having access to decision makers. I have served on the PTO for four years, so I have a closer relationship than most parents but ANY parent is taken seriously and listened too. With all of the budget cuts looming on the horizon, I know that HJH will do everything possible to make middle school productive and fun for their students. Once in a while I have encountered teachers that weren't on the bandwagon, but they were few and far between.
My youngest is liking it so much, he is begging me to let him repeat 7th grade (I am refusing). Both kids are scoring well. I think the reading/writing and math programs are particularly strong. The band program is excellent, as well. I appreciate the fact that they had an outstanding PE program every day and that the cafeteria serves healthy food. The administrators keep a tight rein on the kids and deal appropriately with misbehavior. Junior school can be tough for a lot of kids and I think HJH is a friendly, supportive, and academically challenging environment for local youth.
Healdsburg Junior High is a great place for kids. I have put 3 kids through HJH and have been extremely happy. All departments are great with the math, science & P.E. being outstanding. Strong parent support with a fantastic PTO (parent teacher organization). Healdsburg Junior High is now a 6-8 school.
