It not only teaches academics but morals, values and respect for one another.
children receive individualized attention which provides a positive environment allowing student to reach their maximum potential
We have had children at Sacred Heart for 4 years now and our experience has been extremely positive...especially for a 'non-local' family. With every school there are strengths and weaknesses and Sacred Heart is no exception. The environment our kids have been exposed to is faith based but not over the top, positively reinforcing, fun and helps to develop strong self esteem for those difficult decisions later in life. We noticed, there are virtually no disciplinary issues at all, which in later grades can be a challenge in Hollister. The parental involvement and support really makes one feel like part of a community, actually more like a family which is an added bonus. Lastly, the educators are extremely qualified, they truly care about our kids and it shows in their attitude towards school...they love going!!! Every school has flaws and SHPS is no exception, but the good far outweigh the bad.
Sacred Heart school has taught my children so much more than academics. It has taught them how to be a leader, a Christian, and a role model. Many of the students have competed in speech contests, spelling bees, science fairs, and writing contests in our county and in the state. The teachers care about their students and want them to succeed. The leadership of the school is always searching for new ways all students can succeed and reach their fullest potential. It is a great school!
Sacred Heart does so many things well, they provide a wonderful education along with religion, music, Spanish in early grades and teaching to respect others. Great job best school year ever...
In response to the review re:Jan. 12, 2008, the school has the Arts Attack program, as well as a music teacher who teaches 1st thru 8th grades on how to sing, read music, as well as actually playing the recorder for the lower grades as well as the keyboard for the upper grades. In an era where these types of extra programs are being cut at the public level, it is a plus that Sacred Heart is continuing these programs.
I think for a private school Sacred Heart really needs to look at extra curricular activies. There is no art class. Music is lacking- The pre-K 3 year old program was cut this year, which I really saw as a bad move. The positive to this school is that they offer a Pre-K and a K class, which is nice for those kids not ready for K yet. The downside is we spend alot of money for this school and really haven't seen above average results academically with our child. The parent involvement is great, and low teacher ratio are the reasons we still have our child at this school. We aren't sure if we'll keep him here next year though because it's just average in my opinion. I know quite a few families have left this year. I hope they get all these issues ironed out soon.
I think the intent of the leadership is strong. However it appears that politics and who you are within the comminuity is how your child is graded. I don't know if the new principle will be able to overcome all of the schools short comings.
Very in-line with the ca. State school standards. Does not offer additional academic programs, just introduced phonic program to early grades. Hi-level of parent involvement, has yearly donation requirements of parents, both financial and service. Has weekly music class, no additional art programs available. Wasn't too impressed with the academic standards taught.
Our child has been part of this school for 5 years. We did have one year that was quite challenging. Didn't care for the teacher. We stuck with it and have been extremely happy with the other teachers and the academic programs. They have music for all grades and sports for the upper grades. There are always family things to do and the end of year picnic is a great way for the kids to end the year. I plan on keeping my child in through 8th grade. It's a great school and Mrs. O'Donnell now has a few years under her belt and the school is continually improving.
My child attended this school K-8 and has wonderful friendships and many good memories. New students (especially middle school) may have a difficult time adapting and being accepted. We're very disappointed in the educational quality. There have been few very good teachers and there are teachers who have no business teaching children. Some textbooks were very out-of-date. The science program has generally been poor. There is a large teacher and student turnover. We've experienced four principals in 9 years. Communication with parents is poor. Consistency is poor. Our child was successful because of fitting into the profile of their model student. Self-esteem issues are a struggle for many. Serious discipline problems have been overlooked by administration. We are very involved, supportive, and made numerous attempts to communicate our concerns to the school and diocese to no avail. We remain hopeful, but unsure for the school's future.
