I have heard from many teachers that work there that they are under constant pressure to keep grades up at all costs even if it means that they have to manipulate grades. The current principal and those in his counsel are under qualified. I pulled my kid out as soon as I found out. I expect my kids to get quality education and not be part of some corporate run entity that cares only about their investors.
Hat's off to the teachers who have tuffed it, dispite politics, and personalities which are present in all working enviornments and schools. Your career here has been for the love of teaching & believing in the students. Earlier this year Ms. Galvan was promoted, the new administrator has a relaxed atmosphere for learning.I hope the lack of rigidness doesn't affect college preparedness, HPCRAHS is the better of all the other HS's in the area; although this culminating class has had the least scholarships avaliable to the seniors. It would be unfair to either administrator since Ms. Galvan left midyear; the new administrator has been well well received by the staff & students. The jury is still out as to which learning enviornment will best benefit the student's academic achievment.
Let me start off by saying this school is mediocre. i felt that the only positive aspect of this school are the teacher because of their kindness and willingness to get involved in the students life. The teachers you meet in this school are definitely teachers you will always remember for the rest of your academic career. My biggest concern is in regards to their claim "college ready" this school definitely does not prepare you for college at all..I was always a top student in all my classes but my freshman year at college was horrific. I struggled a lot with my writing skill and math skills but i eventually taught myself how to succeed in college which is what college is all about (right). I'm currently a mathematics major and a junior in my university. Over all i feel that yes, this school is better compared to other publics schools around the area because it does guide you and help you get into college but it does not fully prepare students going off to college.
I interesting more information this school because my son probably will study here thanks your support and clear information about school, curriculum, teachers, etc
This school is very small with about 500 students but it an amazing environment to be around, all the staff are respectful and there when ever anyone needs help as well as the students, The teachers and principal knows us, if not a little just by name but more then that, they know how we are. This is a great school and i encourage parents to put there children in this kinds of school because they are very helpful and they give the one on one help some students may need. Class of 2011 My Graduation Year :D amazing! Very Proud To Be A Jaguar!
they are a very great school, great teachers, great staff really a good school for my child
I am a student still attending, and overall its not a bad its actually a great school. If u want your child to suceed in life and go to college this is the school for you. When the school first started we didn't have sports, but now we have many types of sports we have more electives and more AP classes. Teachers are great they actually care about their students not like in other High Schools around the area. If it wasn't this school i would probably went to.Fremont and would of dropped out. Hpcrahs has the best test scores in this area we have a 785 i think while HP High has 565. So if you want your.child to be successful this is the school for you. I promise you wants your a senior and your graduating, you are not going to want to leave.
Overall I'm pleased that my son attends this school. The school has improved yearly. They now have sports, AP classes, and clubs. The principal is dedicated and works hard for these kids, she has college courses on site. Her main focus is to prepare the students for college. The API score is higher than the surrounding shools. It all depends of the students and the support of the parents because the tools to succeed are definetely provided.
Tust me if you enter this school you'll graduate and will also get all the help you can get so you can enter a University.
Im a former student and i think its a great school comparing three diffrent high schools. its a great opportunity to have a head start if proceeding to go to college or a university. its a school which gives you a realistic point of veiw in the life ahead.
I disagree with the student that was/might be now in 'ASB'. If they claim to be in ASB then they know exactly how the school works. So please do not tell me that in that school there isn't favorites, we (all the students), know the true. Especially you, as I'm sure you have experienced how hard it is to get something for the student here due to there being little teacher ad principal support. How do i know, well you could say i was/might be in ASb too A sto the activities and opportunities that are offered in the school, yes you are right there are many opportunities there, however it is sad to say that only those who need the credits could take extra courses during and only those who are 'advance' in a subject could take honors or AP classes. Overall however the school has improved.
I think this school is a good choice for many students who cannot afford private school but who really need individualized attention and a small school environment. I have kept in contact with teachers through email and they have been very receptive. Also, their powerschool program let's parents check grades at all times. I know that it's lacking in AP classes and extracurricular programs but I think it's worth it to give up on some programs in order to offer a college preparatory curriculum for all students. What I would like to see improved is the Math program because it shows in the scores that the Math instruction is really lacking.
I was looking for the best option for my child when she graduated from a parrochial school in the area and I truly believe this school has been the best choice for her. The students are being prepared for college and that is one of the most important things I was looing for in a high school. They need to be prepared so when you get to college you are well prepared in the various subjects. I do not regret this decision. I am now looking for a college ready prep for my middle school child.
I disagree with the previous comments made by the students. One said that the principle has favorites and this is not true. She is fair in her decisions and she chooses people who she believes will take advantage of the opportunity. We have basketball team and currently have a basketball intramural. Last year we had a running team that ran the marathon, and I was in it. Unfortunately the coach was not able to make the team again but next year she will have cross country and this running program again. I am also in the student government and we have accomplished activities but I guess the student that wrote the previous comment was not well informed. We have had our first Winter Formal in January and last week we had a school dance competition. During the week we sell snacks to fundraise for future activities and for next year s prom. I am aware there are some teachers who in fact do not challenge the students but it up to the individual to challenge him or herself. There are opportunities in the school just that you have to have the courage to seek and look for them; they are not all going to come for you. I entered in tenth grade and I feel I have improved in all areas. I think this a good school for those students who want to expand their abilities and who are committed to over achieve the regular expectations.
HPCRAHS offers rigorous course work to prepare students for college. We don't offer many extracurricular activities, sports or many AP classes (yet). Our school is only in its third year and already we academically out perform all the area high schools. We are a small charter school with average class sizes of 25 students are less. Teachers and admintrators know all the students by name and more importantly, they KNOW their students, who their parents and siblings are, what their likes and dislikes are etc. Like all schools we have occasional problems but unlike the schools I have taught in the pass the problems are fixed quickly. I love this school, my fellow teachers are the brightest and the best, and above all we have the most awesome students!
This school is not bad but good its circulm is high and challenges the students. However, the principal has favorites and always chooses them to take part of all the acttivities. She also always picks her favorties to get in the best class. In the other hand the assistant principal is really nice and in lunch and nutrition talks and is part of the student body. He really listens to the opinions of the students and is their for them. The Office by the most part is the best except for some people which somehow always pick on the same people just because they did something wrong. The student body is really nice and eveeryone knows each other and problems do come but every school has them. What makes the schools average go down is the fact that the principal always chooses her favorites.
Overall this school is not good at all. There is only one AP class that is offered, which is AP English. Almost no teachers challenge their students to do better and up to this day theres still no sports. There is a student body club but up to this day no activities have been made for the students.
It doesn't offer enough electives for students to explore. They don't provide with enough possibilities to meke up our classes and they don't have a nurse office, deen office, or a councelor office that we can go in when in need.
