Sent My nephew to this school when he was living in my house. I had specifically requested that his classes not be changes as he needed some stability in his life. 2 weeks into the year, all his classes get changed. I called his counselor and asked why I was not notified. We don't have time to tell the parents about what goes on at the school. I reminded her of our conversation and that she had noted it down in his record. Oh yea, was all she could say. Later when I was not getting any feedback on his attendance or progress in class I went to the school to ask about both. Within minutes of asking I was told he had missed about every third day for the semester and he now had several Saturday school days to make it up the missing time. My only question was why wasn't I told before he had missed several weeks of class and only after I went to the school and asked about it. This school may have many good programs going for it, but the Administration and front office leaves a lot to be desired! Trust be verify daily!

Before I begin, I would like to say that there are good kids & great teachers at this school. Unfortunately, there are too many bad apples at this school & they make it very difficult for the kids who want to learn. I feel for the true students who have to go to school in such a disorganized environment.

A lot of the students are good but I suggest watching the crowd your kid hangs out with.

The only school in the district with 2 pools and Surfimg PE class. New science labs. Students come from all over the district to take advantage of Mar Vista's ROTC program. Great Maritime Technology program to train students for Merchant Marine careers and Posiedon Academy for kids interested in oceanography & marine science

Mar Vista High is a wonderful place to attend school. A solid tolerance,a powerful presence of minorities, and a successful AP program has made of Mar Vista one of the most successful High Schools in the SUHSD district in the last year. The crowning of the class of 2006 as the best of the whole district, was just the initial phase to a long process that this school has and will perform in the short term future. Hail Mar Vista, hail Mar Vista, a school not scared of change, and where the students are a top priority.
