We had a kindergarten student in Kelso, and were pleasantly surprised by the progress and advancement over the school year. The classroom was really engaging, and the teaching staff were fantastic. I am happy and proud to have our child in a local public school, and will do everything in my power to support it.
LOVE THIS SCHOOL!!!!!! GREAT STAFF AND ACADEMICS IS A GREAT IMPORTANCE THERE, WISH ALL SCHOOLS WERE THE SAME WAY.
I'm currently in seventh grade and i attended Kelso 2 years ago. My fourth grade year there was probably the worst due to the absence of my teachers for about 2 months. She basically failed in teaching us. However, my fifth grade teacher Ms.Magel made up for all of that. Whatever we didn't review in 4th she taught us in 5th along with the other lessons we needed to learn. She was really hands-on and made us want to learn. The school really does strive to interact and help the students. Overall the school is great. I would definitely recommended this school to anyone.
My son came after winter break and he has improved in all academics so GREAT. I just want to thank everyone at the school for the patience and the thoughtful HEARTS:)
Awesome School!!!! The best in Inglewood Unified School District. The school is superior academically and now has extracurrricular activities. Highly Recommended.
I have a second grader at Kelso School. I think Mrs. Grigsby is wonderful. She cares about the students. Mrs. James has helped my child. She cares about the staff and students. I appreciate the fact that she is approachable and has a warm, caring repoire with all people. You can stand at dismissal or see her on the yard with the students. They gravitate towards her because they sense her concern. I think the majority of the reviews reflect the strong leadership and high expectations that Kelso's leadership with Mrs. James. I think one person's oppinion when the majority say great things, reflects one person's inability to 'have their way', eventhough it may not have been the 'right way'.
As a former student of Kelso Elementary school, I must say that I miss the music programs. It was fun practicing for a Christmas show (I got to present my class) and watching my parents in the audience. My nephew now attends the school and it isn't the same. However, Kelso does CARE about their students. They don't just give busywork. One of the assignments was 'Tell your third grade teacher about yourself and what you like to do'. Their report cards don't just give grades. There is a teacher comment section that lets you know why they got that grade and what they need to improve. What we really want for our kids is a good education. College really does start with kelso. I look forward to my daughter starting Kinder next year and meeting the new principal and staff.
Kelso lacks any extracurricular activities, has virtually no PTA and very inexperienced leadership. The teachers do not seem to work together and the test scores are falling. There are some great teachers here but the principal needs to create a new plan for success.
Great School! Great Staff! Fair, Consistent, and Caring Administrators!!
I'm a parent of a Kelso student which I'm actually amazed of the progress. I was a little scared at first having my child attend a public school. But the fear has past. My daughter first grade teacher Mrs. Dowells is great, has been teaching 20 yrs plus. My daughter assignments and homewrk are great. I would recomend Kelso to any parent.
I am a parent of a student at Kelso elementary. It is know secret that Kelso is recognized for its elevated state test scores and I commend the staffing for this. But a child also needs a well rounded experience at school. Meaning I feel that Kelso should offer more thatn one field trip per year, more activities, clubs, music, arts and crafts, maybe even an assembly or two per year.
Kelso is run by a great new principal and asst. principal. Mrs. James and Mr. DeSeriere are hard workers who mean what they say and say what they mean. These two administrators stick to their guns, consult the teachers and do what is beneficial for the child and not just the parent. I am a parent of a retained 3rd grader and I am happy to support them because my child is happier now and loves learning. I was upset before but now I realize they do know what's best for my child.
Hello, kelso is a great scholl, all of my sisters and brother went to this scholl. Now my kids go there. My daughter is in second grade my son in first. They have really great teachers. I think the new principal should incorage parents to be involve not to stay away
Mrs. James has been only kind and hard working since she has been at Kelso. I am a parent of a first, second, and fifth grader. She has been extremely helpful. I believe her first month has been great. I believe a great choice was made for her to be the principal of Kelso. We loved Mrs. Moore, but I am confident that Mrs. James will fill her shoes perfectly!
This school is wonderful if you want your child to excel in reading and math. If you want a well rounded curriculum with an array of art and music you should look elsewhere. The staff works hard and test scores are phenomenal.
I am a teacher and I must say that I am very impressed with Kelso. The teachers are highly skilled and very dedicated and because the teachers know exactly what students need, the school runs smoothly. Administrators are attentive to teachers' needs and quickly addresses them as needed.
This is my son's second year at Kelso and his test scores have improved tremendously. Mrs. Moore and her staff are to be commended for doing an excellent job. I am concerned about the lack of music and art education. The childcare staff is caring and fair.
Kelso is a very good school in terms of academics. I was disappointed that there were no musicals or holiday programs.
The teachers and Principals and Child Care staff care for our children. They are always communicating to us on the status of their grades. I thank them for their great effort and time.
