King City High School lost its accreditation at the end of the 2006/2007 school year. Though they do have a good teaching staff they lack the neccesarry leadership of a good school district.
Ghetto School, but good athletics departments. Many kids from farming backgrounds
Some good teachers(mostly older ones who don't just teach to tests), poor administration with new principals every few years. My children got a good education because I knew which teacher's classes to get them into.
My son is a sophomore at King City High school and has grown up in this humble town. Insofar as King City is a small town, there is much community involvement in the school. Our teachers are also our neighbors and therefore have a personal interest in our children's education. The programs meet high standards, especially in the areas of math and social studies. The teachers in these two departments are expert in their respective curricula. However, the English department does not concentrate on literature or writing the way I would like. Novels that I would like to see taught here are taught in other school districts. The writing assignments are sparse and mediocre, not adequately preparing a student for the rigors of college.
King City High School has a lot of great opportunities for many students, but with the issue of gangs and violence it has become an issue for most students to learn and the continue with extra caricular activities.
I feel this school needs more ap programs accessible to the students. there is only ap courses in english , history, and calculus. there needs to be more. Other than that. they have wonderful music, ahtletic teachers and community activities. Parents get involved in the mustang bench and other activities. its overall and average school.
Although there are some truly wonderful, caring teachers at this school, overall the faculty, administration, and district do not seem committed to student excellence, preferring to focus instead on petty squabbles and ineffective minor projects. Until real leadership is taken, the ineffective teachers are called to task so the truly excellent ones can shine, and everyone decides to work together instead of against each other, this school just won't have what it takes to lead students into the changing world.
Academic programs: very limited. Very few college-prep electives, only a few challenging classes (honors classes), and even some of those are not challenging. For students to really get challenged, they need to go to the local junior college and take classes concurrently--there just isn't enough challenge offered at what is primarily a remedial high school. Music programs are fair--no marching band, but the band instructor is phenomenal, but unfortunately close to retirement. Strong drama program, yet controversial. Lots of parent and community involvement in sports, some strong sports programs, but very few teacher-coaches. Overall level of parent involvement varies. The Anglo parents tend to get very involved, to the point of it being bad, in some ways. The Hispanic parents don't get involved, and they're the majority of the school. There should be a lot more parental involvement than there is.
King City, home of the Mustangs! This high school is an excellent place for your child to get a great education..the math level reaches out to Caculus, and there is also art, music, welding, mechanics, and leadership classes to participate in. TAke a visit King City is great
