I am a student at stanley and I love it! There are many clubs, help, and sports during and after school. Math is not my strongest subject, so it is convenient to get help from the teachers during lunch. Stanley has one of the best music departments in the country! I do chorus and we ranked a superior at a choir competition! Also, pe is super fun and I am obsessed with my pe teacher, mrs anke, because she is super nice and favors me. Core is fun and I have mrs. Healy. In history we learn about Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, China, Greece, Israel, and Italy. My math teacher, mrs wright, it super sweet and kind. She is always available to help her students. Science is okay and my science teacher, mrs. Plinneke is my neighbor. The only thing I don't like is that some girls think they are so popular. But that is okay. (Ps, your shorts have to be past your fingertips when your arms are resting t your sides because you could get a dress cut. It happened to me! Same goes for tank too straps. They have to be three fingers thick.) Stanley is the most awesome school!!!!!!
Stanley is an awesome school. The teachers really do care about the students succeeding. I give Stanley an A++. Outstanding in Math, Science and Music.
Stanley tries hard in many areas. In many areas it is an excellent school. It excels in Math and Science, has an outstanding music dept. There are also some wonderful programs like the Spanish Dept's exchange program with a school in Colombia. However the English Dept is hit or miss. If you get a strong teacher there you are lucky, otherwise assume your child will not be prepared for a rigorous High School. Little diversity, there is a small percentage of lower middle class students, but the wealthier, "fairer" students run the show. It's a very large school and shyer students can easily get lost.
Very focused on test scores, which are high primarily because of high socioeconomic makeup. No GATE programming, and differentiation is minimal to none, meaning more advanced students are often bored.
While there are some wonderful teachers at Stanley there are also those that would benefit from yearly reviews and evalautions - and moved out when necessary. Not much action is taken when a student or parent needs extra help - or even 15 minutes of an administrator's time - once a year! If your child fits a classic self-motivated student mold, he/she will be fine. Otherwise it's a rocky road. I've had both types of children and very different experiences.
Stanley really is a great school. The principal is fully involved as well as the vice principal. They are always trying to keep everyone involved (including teachers). They do everything in their power to keep kids safe and out of trouble. The only bad thing I would say is that sometimes the teachers are not keeping with that. Certain teachers at this school give you material and barely teach it to you. On the other hand, there are teachers who really care whether or not you do well in life and succeed. I relocated from a state halfway across the country and I was scared that I wouldn't fit in, but I was pleasantly surprised! I am so glad I chose this school!
Stanley is a great school. The teachers are great, the music department is fantastic! Through out elementary school I heard that Stanley had drug problems, but when I went there I figured out that all of that were just rumors. The PE classes are great. You really get involved, and after running a mile or something like that you really feel great about yourself. Stanley is awesome!
We love Stanley! This is my daughter's first year there, and she is having a great time. She's in an advanced math class, and when she needs extra help, there is always a classroom open for math help at lunch and after school. They have tons of sports after school- something for everyone, and everyone gets to play.
Someone commented on the fact that music was lacking at Stanley. Well, Bob Athade runs one of the best music programs I have ever seen. Both in the amount of students that participate and in the quality of musical instruction. Professional musicians regularly teach classes and the the experience outside of the classroom is tremendous. Stanley is a fantastic school.
Good academic program, lacking in music but good in sports and other opportunities. Lot depends on individual efforts of the students and parents. Quality of academic programs sometimes is more reflrctive of the kind of students in each grade. Some teachers are young others experienced
I love this school! As a student, the expectations are quite high, but even if you can't reach the goal yourself, peer tutoring is available, and my teachers are also willing to help. There's a program for new kids, so they won't get lost, and the music program ranks in the top 100 schools in California to learn music. If I have a problem, the counselors are there, and there's plenty of clubs and classrooms to go to if I don't want to play outside. This is a fabulous school!
Great school. It is everything a parent could want. Very good staff.
Stanley teachers offer one-on-one work with students. Most teachers encourage student participation in the classroom. There are accellerated math programs that reach into a high-school level Geometry class taught on campus. Bullying and teasing is low, though probably never nonexistant. Most students are generally fairly friendly. The music program is very good, and has won awards for its quality. Parental involvement, through the PTA and other associations, is high. Families also contribute to the Lafayette Arts And Science Foundation (LASF) which sponsors many arts and science workshops in school, from K-8. This school overall is one of the best in the state.
Best music program in the country. Large number of students, but has a wide range of clubs and activities.
Stanley is very strong in math, music, sports, science and the core teachers for the most part are excellent. My daughter's writing is superior. She understands how to write a good essay, short story, poem, etc. and I attribute that to her teachers. The school is able to provide four different levels of math, which is excellent because some students feel comfortable with numbers and understand them quickly while others need a bit more time to master them. The music department is also excellent. Mr. Atheyde is inspirational and the students can start to learn to play an instrument and can be as advanced as to participate in symphonic band. As far as I can tell, and my daughter and her friends tell me there is no drug problem in the school. I prefer Stanley over some local private schools. It offers more choices.
I think this school is great! The only two complaints I have are that many of the teachers post the nightly homework on different websites instead of using just one. It is a bit of a hassle. In addition, the children are supposed to write their homework in their organizers daily. My 7th grader son didn't write in his at all last year. Sports at school are not highly competitive and everyone plays. There are more competitive sports in the area. Academics is not my sons strongest attribute, he does as little as possible to get by. His teachers have been active in helping peak his interest in school. I think next year will be different because we have all been so proactive. I am a person who is not overly anxious about education, but want to give my child a good education and opportunities. Some kids are doing drugs.
My daughter goes to Stanley Middle School. Stanley is a school where the children come first. Each child is encouraged to do their personal best without being labeled as the smart or dumb kids. The teachers are highly skilled and work hard to bring out the best in each child. The principal is kind and knows each child by name. He is a great example of a leader . Thank you Stanley for bringing out the best in my child and giving her the encouragement and confidence she needs to go out into the world!
