Teachers at LBHS are excellent in the following areas; teaching, availability of time to students. Parents can daily review grades of student, if there are questions about grades or assignment s you can go to a secure web site and find out what is needed. Also you can e mail the teacher and generally receive an answer back that day. Guidance Counselors are very active with the students (and with parents if they choose to do so) and truly what your teenager to excel. Many sports are offered and there are weekly updates. The school/PTA and School Power sponsor many events to inform parent as to issues are relevant or need addressing...now. Like most High Schools there are continuing problems at the same time LBHS keeps parents informed it is up to the parents to be involved. Also students must complete a number of community service hours prior to graduation. Although this district is blessed with more money than most, anyone who lives within the boundaries can attend and if there is a need for free lunches or other free services most likely you will find them at LBHS. I do wish students had to wear school uniform's due to differences in social class.

Laguna Beach High School has a strong principal and assistant principals; the teachers and sports coaces are among the best in the state. The school has an exceptional drama program, which gets awards every year. Laguna Beach is a small community where parents are very supportive of the students, teachers, and programs. A parent-run organization called School Power provides funding to the schools and their programs (art, music, science, sports, etc.) that are otherwise cut in many public schools. Laguna Beach teachers were not on strike, as opposed to those in many schools in districts throughout Orange County. AP programs are not a cakewalk; therefore, those who take and are successful in these challenging classes are well prepared for the most selective colleges. Harvard, Yale, Princeton, M.I.T., Stanford, etc.

In addition to terrific and dedicated teachers and staff and a fine program, LBHS has, for over 20 years, required 40 hours of community service from its students prior to graduation. It encourages students to help others, and the students are now getting to help vote on whether to 'reclaim' the former longtime name of 'The Laguna Beach Artists' or to keep the newly adopted 'Laguna Beach Breakers' title/mascot. That's our town.

the staff is very good and most nearly all dedicate hours before and after school for tutoring or help. many of the teachers are very approachable and try to relate with students. the ap and honors teachers (especially in history and english) provide a work heavy and rigorous course. It seems as though all teachers wouldn't prefer teaching any where else.One complaint is that class size may be to big because lbhs is a small school with a quickly growing student body. Being a student at LBHS I may have biase toward the students but I have to say that most students try very hard and there is a strong sense of school spirit, which unfortunately Ii feel is beginning too deteriorate slowly. overall The friendly and dedicated staff as well as safe and positive atmosphere makes lbhs a top notch school.

A good small public high school. The drama and other performing arts programs are exceptional. They're a bit heavy with collaborative projects and busy work projects, but the academic quality is good and the environment is pleasant.

My daughter went for one year, her senior year, at Laguna Beach High School. We moved back to California from the Midwest and she found that she was ahead in most of the subjects. Her French class was very lax while her English class was very demanding. In the end, it was a pretty easy senior year for her.

The teachers are caring and available to the students. The academics are strong, with many students getting into high powered colleges. They are currently looking into adopting the IB program in addition to the AP program.

About the tests


In 2011-2012 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

The different student groups are identified by the California Department of Education; if there are fewer than 10 students in a particular group in a school, the state doesn't report data for that group.
