We love this school! The culture of the school is a very happy safe effective learning environment.
Wow! What a fantastic small school. Highest API score in SD County
I've attended River Valley since my freshmen year and my first to years were great but my junior we got a new principal and for lack of words she is horrible. She favors the kids that have been kept under lock and key. SHe is very strict and is making my senior year hell!! other then her, River Valley is truly the best school, the teacher are great and so are the kids.
As a newer River Valley parent (2008-2009 school year), I have found the administration and teachers to be fabulous! I have heard the rumors of the transition of the administration and office staff from the previous years, but have no experience directly with these issues. I think the current staff are doing an excellent job and will only get better with the coming school years! As for diversity, I see more diversity and inclusion at River Valley than other local high schools. One of the best things (besides academics) about River Valley is the atmosphere of safety and inclusion. All students are welcomed and respected; not only by their fellow students, but also by the school staff. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS SCHOOL!
River Valley Charter is an exceptional, award winning school, offering the highest academic scores and achievements, for those who are interested in combining a public and homeschool environment. The children who attend are respectful and well-behaved. The teachers truly care for each student and demonstrate their concern by offering individualized tutoring and communicating well with the parents. Their student to teacher ratio is only 18:1 which is invaluable to the student. If there is a downside, I haven't found it. This school is not recommended for children who do not want an education or for parents who are unable to homeschool their child on the independent study days. It is the perfect blend of technology, acdemics, and support, served up in an atmosphere of peaceful safety where children smile. I have the best experience with the administration of this school,
I have been going to River Valley for three, almost four, years now. From the very first day of 7th grade, the teachers were welcoming and very kind. The environment is so great here, and the students are always friendly. Even though we have a new prinicple, our school is still doing better than ever. I feel so lucky to attend this school! All the students that go here want to go here and enjoy this learning environment. Beause of this school, I have become very excited to start college and expand my horizons. This is a great school and there isn't anything bad to say about it.
I have to say that I am extremely happy with River Valley and the fact that the principal is so involved with the kids. Most principals at public schools are untouchable. Unless of course your child is in trouble! I love the fact that the kids are allowed to express themselves tastefully. School is a place of learning . No one is judged by what they wear or what style they wear as long as it remains appropriate. I know what it's like to raise a child in the public school system and River Valley is a Blessing. My child does not have to go to this school, We choose to have her go here. She really likes the principle and all of her teachers. She's already excited about college, thanks to the schools counselor. It just doesn't get any better than this!!!!!!!
The administration of River Valley Charter School is implementing policy that has been part of River Valley for years, but that has previously been neglected and not enforced. Unfortunately, people do not recognize that a small school environment that crosses six grade levels needs to be a welcoming place for all students. Parents enjoy knowing that this school fosters a culture of acceptance. When behavior is unacceptable, such as violating the dress code, students are asked to modify the unacceptable behavior. Students and parents are asked to read the Parent/Student Handbook on the school website, which details and covers everything parents and students need to know about this school. If students do not like this school's policies, they need to understand that River Valley is a school of choice. The River Valley Charter School Council, faculty, and staff appreciate and support the job the current administration is doing.
River Valley is an exceptional public hybrid home school. Although our principal is new, she is doing a fantastic job considering California's school budget and it's limitations. For example, we have yearbook, ASB, painting, sculpture, guitar, vocal assemble, art history, high school sports and for 11th and 12th graders they can attend community college for free. RV operates as a college preparatory so we only have core curriculum classes two days a week. When your core classes end or it is your off day, you study at home or participate in extra curricular activities (like ice skating) on your own time. There are no before and after school programs like AM/PM or 6 to 6 because our hybrid home school is for 7th through 12th graders and we need to go home and enjoy our free time or do homework. I hope you find my review helpful. Hannah (3rd yr student).
The Administration is doing a horrible job at that school. There are little extracurricular, and the students have little to no enjoyment in attending there!
