I had 3 children attend and graduate from El Cap. I found the admin. staff excellent. They went far beyond my expectations. All 3 kids are very successful and I believe it's in part to the dedication of the staff. J. Herman is the best academic advisor around. My kids all loved Annie the Finance Clerk. Mr. Coulsby is just about the best teacher and mentor that you could ask for. I liked the smaller size of the school and feel I made a good choice when selecting El Capitan as my students high school.

I am a parent of several students at this school. The administrative staff's ineffective leadership has impacted the academics, which are below average as the test scores indicate. The support staff is perceived as unfriendly and parent involvement is not readily welcomed. The safety of the students is not a high priority and often students are unsupervised at extracurricular activities. I have encountered many inappropriate behaviors on campus, not the least of which are foul language and PDA. On a positive note, I have found most teachers to be caring and easy to communicate with.

The school is not engaging. It isn't safe and lacks basic respect for students and parents from administration to the students. That's a reflection of the leadership from the principal on down and I'm not sure what the Mission is, except to promote sports. We have moved our student to a school we believe is safer, respectful and will prepare her for the challenges of college

I think the school lacks teamwork and goal setting from the leadership down.

I went to El Cap a few years back. It was a great school. The teachers are all great and really fun. Its kids mostly fit into the east county mold, laid back and chill. I still live in East County and would love for my children to attend El Cap one day!

My experience is good so far. I have a 10th grader there. We're an East County family for 20 years, and MexicanAmericans -the kind that barely speak Spanish but look like we do:-) It's our 1st year in Lakeside and her 1st year at El Cap; she went to TDS in 7th & 8th and knows a lot of people. She loves all her teachers, holds a 3.5 GPA, has 2 honors classes & involved in 3 clubs. I think, it's attitude more than anything, teacher and student. She wants to learn. There are plenty of students that don't want to be at school or feel they need to work instead, for various reasons. Lakeside is a community friendly to low-income populations. Diversity is good for Lakeside. Diversity brings challenges. El Cap has +/- but it's good, making improvements regularly. Most faculty do care & are longtimers.
