With the exception of a select few, the staff needs an overhaul. Many seem too bombarded with compliance to maintain funding to effectively prioritize the education of our chldren. In addition, the administration is often unresponsive to parental input unless cornered. As the principal goes, I do believe that his overall intentions are good, but his shortcomings come to a disadvantage for AHS students. There is an obvious disconnect between faculty and students and an even greater lack of responsibility. It's disheartening to know that these are the individuals that our children are left to look up to in our absence of 8 to 10 hrs. of each school day. Both parents and students are extremely frustrated with the school's inconsistent approach to achieving academic greatness. Students must be measured by more than test scores, and in doing so should be taught to learn not to test.

This was the poorest school my daughter has attended. We thought that because it was in a relatively good area, that the school would be equally as exceptional. We were completely wrong. She lasted a week here before being attacked. The classrooms and horribly disruptive and the teachers are too passive. If you want your child to be challenged in school, this is not the one to send them too. They could not control their students and she was enrolled in all honors classes. Many kids cursed in class and the teacher did nothing. She came home crying every day. The principle was rude, passive and unwilling to help. Many kids come from a continuation school.

Artesia has shown great improvement over the past few years. The teachers are doing a much better job of reaching the kids. The principle also does what is best for the school, but has failed to work with and peak an interest from the parents. Most of the parents are from a culture that work is more important than an education. Parents need to get involved for this school to reach the next level of success.

I do not agree the principal is the best thing at Artesia. He is always there for the students and parents! He has changed this school in the last 4 years

I am currently enrolled at Artesia high School. and to me i consider this a great school ..just think of all the improvements that was done over the years. There are some issues here , but they are getting minimized over the years. I really think that this school is improving over the years, though it is improving slowly, its still a step forward and not back and i predict that soon this school will finally catch up with the other great schools and will be finally realized of how a great of a school it is

Artesia High is a wonderful school. The entire staff really tries their best with what is given to them. Its not easy to teach at a school where many of the kids come from homes where education is not important or stressed. The campus always looks good and from I here Brian Cota is back at the school. He really turned the appearance of the school around when he was there before and I am sure he will make a difference at the school again. The entire staff makes a school, but from what I understand, from my child, he makes the staff just that more special. I can't wait to see ehat happens next.

My daughter is a Senior and will be graduating in June 08. I am very happy with the administration. I respect the discipline that Mr. Woodward and Mr. Garcia put on the students. it is a tough world in the Adult world and Artesia is preparing our kids to enter that world. I also thank the Sheriff's Dept for the security they provide to keep our children safe. I am proud to be part of the Pioneer family. Compliments also to Ms. Feenstra. She is Artesia high.

In my opinion, Artesia High School is a great school. It is often underestimated by some people because of its testing scores. But those scores are just numbers; one can't see the good things Artesia high school has to offer if one keeps judging it by the numbers. Artesia High School has numerous great teachers, counselors, administrators and students. I don't think it is nice for some students to say that teachers at AHS are not that good and that they give a lot of homework. Part of being a student means that you have to do your work. You can't blame it all to the teachers if YOU are the one who procastinate and not do your work as a student. If some teachers lack expectations from the student, then, fine, do your best and show them that you are worthy of their expectations.
