My son has been @ Palms since kindergarten and he is now in 4th grade. All of his teachers have been wonderful and helpful in all aspects of learning.Communication is always open so that the parents aware of whats going on with their children's education. The office staff are helpful and couteous and always have smiling faces. From Mrs Spicer to Ms Huh the principals were always have concern for the children and what can be done to achieve even higher academics.Im thankful for such a great school learning environment for my child.
I found cirriculum in Mr. Neill's class challenging and intensive. Our student made great progress and was motivated to read beyond grade level. His class kept up with the times and uses of technology. It was amazing to me to see how he taught both 4th and 5th grade levels.
My son has been a student at Palms since Kindergarten. He is now in the 3rd grade and his sister is enrolling in the Fall for Pre-K. I can tell you Ms. Huh is a dream come true! Love her!! I've had nothing but wonderful experiences when interacting with her and the other staff memembers. I think very highly of Mrs. Ronay (2nd Grade Teacher). This lady is beyond a teacher. She had just the right touch that turned my son's life around at that school. Followed by Ms. Garcia! Another wonderful teacher. I can't participate as much as I would like to at the school because I have a very demanding job, however I keep in contact with regular meetings and phone calls to keep up with my son's progress and they are alway willing to give me an update promptly. Great school and I'm glad my son is a student there!
My youngest child has attended palms two years. She is high functioning autistic, highly intelligent but with boundary & social learning challenges. The Palms teachers, principal, speach therapist & councilor have been wonderful. The academics for lower grades at Palms are similar to other districts where my older children attended. Palms curriculum for these grades is top notch. It's up to parents to do their part with homework & reading at night. I found other districts unwilling to provide for minimum federally mandated assistance for special needs children. ABC school district on the other hand has some top schools but they also fully comply with federal requirements & staff go beyond what is required for these wonderful children. Let's support this staff and do our part as parents with more parental involvement. Those who do not get involved have no place to complain!
We moved to the neighborhood last summer and I was excited to send my children here because all of the schools are in such close walking distance. I was pleased to see a nice mix of children and I have been VERY pleased with the quality of education that my sons are getting. My youngest started Kindergarten and over the course of the school year has learned to read. Mrs. Sikma is a fantastic kinder teacher!! My older son is in Mrs. Bronner's class and I love her enthusiasm for teaching and how she holds her students accountable for their homework and class participation by giving them something to look forward to for Fun Fridays. I have absolutely ZERO complaints. Ms. Huh the Principal is very active within the school and I appreciate the recorded phone messages that we to remind us of upcoming events.
My child is in her 2nd year at this school. She came from another school in the district with a much higher rating on this site. Though it has a low rating, the new principal this year is striving to change things and make it a better learning environment. My child has specific learning challenges and while at Palms has just grown tremendously through services she recieves. And her teachers she's had each year have really helped her to work towards her potential and even more. Don't let the rating scare you. It really is a wonderful school.
I have been a non parent volunteer at Palms School for six years in many capacities. There has been great improvement during that time in teacher performance and parent involvement based on numbers and feedback. Palms is the only school in this district where the principal has conducted a thorough (100 families) random yearly survey of progress in many areas including her performance. Based on results, the Palms community gives both teachers and the principal high marks in many areas. The PTA just concluded another exemplary year with increased membership and a successful year end community picnic. The City of Lakewood in which Palms is located, honored the principal this year for work with the community, one of the few people so recognized. She was able to bring these skills from her pervious assignment where her school was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School, the first in her district.
I have three children at this two which transfered from another school due to a move and I am very disappointed. The principal of Palms does not handle matters as she should and some of the teachers I've had experienced just do't seem to care about the kids. Two teachers my kids have had are excellent but the rest-have this I don't care attitude. I'm also disappointed because my neighborhood does not have parent involvement and realiztically some of these kids are not growing up with morals, values and manners therfore they don't know how to respect other adults and children. I feel the school needs to take better control on the kids and have teachers that are willing to kick it up a notch to make a difference.
I am very happy with Palms. I have a K and G3 this year and the teachers a amazing. They are patient and wonderful with the children. I help out a lot so I get to see it firsthand. You can feel they really care about the children. There is not a lot of extracurricular activities, but they have great fieldtrips and often go the extra mile to bring the kids to get better in their studies.
My son attends pre-k at palms, it's a great school. The teacher is wonderfull. She's great with the kids. The class aids are very nice to.
