I am disappointed in Antelope Valley. I am a student here, yet I can not find myself comfortable in a classroom any longer.I love to learn, yet how is it possible when half the time (im sure the administration should become aware) the students this year are the the most challanging most have had to share a class with?! The classes are large, arguments(usually only verbal with threats) are quick to escalate to shouting, yet the teachers can not create the discipline needed to control thier classes. These selfish and loud students will continue to make a mockery of an other wise good school ! I see no reason to keep these immature and childish ones in class, why not pull them and see how much is really done? I know every one deserves a chance at education, but why keep the ones who blow it off? Keep the ones who care!
The mere fact that a student says that 'we are happy kids instead of puppets following a harsh system' speaks a lot about the level of maturity and discipline at this school.
I love AV high school also why because i was a student there all four years and i graduated in 08 and all four years i had fun and all the teachers will help you there. i miss AVHS so much and i hope all the students there likes AVHS as much as i do!
I love A.V. because as students we are all able to express our indivuality and who we are as maturing teens. Yes we lack a strong discipline system but we are happy kids instead of being puppets following a harsh system.
This school is the best!! I went here all 4 years and graduated in 09. Overall this school has a lot less problems than some of the other schools. It is not what it used to be when the state took over. They now have an extremely helpful and caring staff that does their best each day to make Antelope Valley a better and successful school. With a whole new administration came change. Ms. Lockhart definitely helped made a huge difference in turning a once bad school around. Test scores and attendance have been improving and they are restoring the school pride that has been missing when the state took over. Teachers spend extra time to make sure students understand what they are learning. They have a great preparation for college with the career center along with amazing counselors and trips to campuses. Recently the school was repainted and renovated the stadium to update it. I think if they fixed and cleaned up a couple of classrooms and bathrooms the school would look great. The only problem the school has is parent volunteering. If more parents were involved I think they would be able to do a lot more things with a little help. I would recommend this school over all the other 7 in the district.
This was the best high school i met so many people and the teachers they really care about you the education has to be the best because if your stuck on something the teachers even the staff are there to help you.
There is a VERY low level of violence at AV HIgh. My child loves the school. They are working very hard to raise test scores.
This school is amazing!!! The pricipal is very enthusiastic and encourages her students to do their best and never give up
I must applaud the new principal and asst principal, as well as the counselors at this school. My son has had serious challenges with behavior and special accomodations, and the staff has been right there to help me all along. I have been able to talk to them via email daily and keep up with progress in meetings, and he is now on track in his second year. School is what you make of it, so blaming schools for failure is not my thing. i'm very impressed with the leadership of these teachers and staff, and although some are better than others, so far the school has come through and offered additional services whenever i need help. Recently, they ended the problem of parents who stop in front of the school to pick up! Now if we can only teach crosswalk safety, I'd be pleased.
I have worked at this marvelous school for the past 9 years. It fills me with so much joy to be part of what was known as an 'underachieving school' to now being seen as a better performing school. Test scores are on the rise. We graduate more students each year, especially in the special education realm. Alumni come back to express gratitude regularly. It is a wonderful force in the AV to be part of and I am proud constantly of our achievements, especially my unique club Teen Builders.
