I had two children attending this school. Both my children have special needs. their services and compliance was unsatisfactory. I repeatedly attempted to get them to comply with the IEP. i eventually let the district and drive 6 miles so that they can get an approprialte education with responsible professional that care.

I am a mother of 5 children who all attended Nancy Cory from Kindergarten through 5th grade. My youngest son is currently a 5th grader here and I must say I have been extremely happy with all the teachers and the support this school has to offer for students.

Wow, my kids go to school here and I knew something was wrong but i didn't know exactly what. I spotted trouble from the word go. I wanted my children to meet the principal since they came late in the school season. He was too busy and never did care enough to meet my kids. Until I caused a stink, he and the vice principal both came running. There seems to be a lot of discrimination in this school. My friend is hispanic and she and her kids seem t catch a lot of heat. There is little in the way of field trips. I was hoping to have my kids in the band but I held back for obvious reason. I don't think I will subject my kids to this environment unless there are major improvments. On a good note my kids do have great teachers this year!

I have to agree that the school is not what it used to be under the direction of Sandra Lyons. In my opinion, there is no PTO. Shirts and Scrip must be ordered. No one cares enough to take the time. There is no fun for the kids. Activities,(i.e. Fall Festival, costumes @ Halloween, etc.)Nothing to motivate the children into enjoying school. I agree that most of the teachers are wonderful, but they can only do so much. Parents need to speak out by going to school board meetings and taking an active involvement in PTO, not just in name only. Nancy Cory could return to what it once was. Maybe the new superintendent will encourge and bring forth change. Let's hope so!

We loved Nancy Cory Elementary because of the dedicated teachers. In addition to regular academics, the school has spelling bees, geography bees, oration contests, band, strings, basketball, and many other activities built into the curriculum. All children have the opportunity to participate, try out, and work hard - if they choose to. Unfortunately, the school environment has suffered because of the recent influx of many apathetic parents who refuse to help with the PTO,in the classroom, with their children's uncivil behavior or they make excuses for their children not completing work. Too often these parents blame the teachers or the principal. Many caring families have left Nancy Cory because of these parents and their unruly children. There was a small number of dedicated parents who worked hard to help teachers and all children. They made a difference.

The school is in poor condition. The principal shouldn't be in his position, due to the fact he wants no interaction with parents. He cancels all activities, recess sports, and discourages parental involvement with the school. The district is most definitely aware of these things and allows him to remain in his position, as they also allow teachers to remain in theirs after they admit, they no longer have the motivation or support by the district to teach.

The lack of focus on the spanish speaking children is the basis for the lacking API scores. What Nancy Cory needs to do is to use the Nancy Cory reader program inconjuntion with the ESL program to aid in the reading scores. There are many spanish speaking parents out there that would love to be involved in tutoring the children to reach grade-level-potential. But unfortunately, the principal and school makes it very hard on minority volunteers. There are numerous parents wanting to be involved, but are feeling left out. One parent suggested the volunteers work with the reading program to add extra support to the students, that idea has yet to be supported. Nancy Cory says 'Everyone is important.' However, actions speak louder than words. Thank you to the parents representing the way the majority of us feel.
