Profile Completeness

BASIC

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

It all begins at the top. In the case of this school, that would mean its principal Dr. Culpepper. She will not interact with parents and is not a great leader. With her sitting at the helm of this school, the future looks bleak. While there are some amazing folks there, how can they truly thrive when the captain is failing? What a shame. This could be one amazing school if it were not for this principal. C'mon, replace her or ask her to do an excellent job. The children's futures are resting on it.

The principal, Culpepper, doesn't seem to be interested in the children or parents' welfare or concerns. She has an attitude as if she does not want to be bothered by any concern a parent has. If you request info about the school she will not willingly give it, as if there is something to hide. You will have to take your concerns to the district. Also they have Spanish and Music class in which the children learn nothing- they watch movies all day, which are not even shown in Spanish. Their disciplinary actions are quite extreme for minor occurrences. It feels like I have to defend my child from the school's bullies(the adults) often. Other schools do not go to the extreme first, usually warnings are given before detention and suspensions, not this school. This gets a two star rating because the English and Math/Science teachers seem to be teaching the kids actual curriculum and wanting to help the children learn, otherwise it would be a 1.

Parents/ Grandparents, please do your homework. Life Source is THE worst performing school in the Antelope Valley with proficiencies between 20-30%. Are teachers held accountable for student success? Teachers are there one day, gone the next so I wouldn't know. The administration deemed it unnecessary to inform parents of the important things like instructors resigning. If staff and parents are not encouraged to communicate with each other, then what would you expect from students? Be true to your mission. As a charter school, you would typically exist to improve student academic performance, and yet not only does this school not do this, but is performing significantly worse than ALL of the elementary schools in this area. Look at the SARC report (CA state website) and do the calculations yourself. Look at test reports from surrounding schools. Look at how long the school has been open, how many children have been pulled out by their parents, and the frequency of staff. Also, follow up with staff credentials.

MY GRANDCHILDREN ARE SCHOLARS, at this school children are encouraged to explore while they excel. Children are afforded teachers from diverse racial background and postsecondary degrees, extra-curriculum afterschool program, monthly award ceremony (with gift cards), field trips (eg: LA museums); and frequent assembly consisting of community leaders promoting college and sharing their profession duties opportunities. Parent involvement, mentor programs, Robotic/Computer/Music classes and competition, all simultaneously aid with promoting academic excellence and socialization skills. My grandson traveled to St. Louis, MO and competed in Robotic; my granddaughter has already earned $30 in Walmart gift card for her academic achievement, perfect monthly attendance and good attire. If you want your child to dream of a future that can come true, start with this school, Dr. Culpepper, the principal and her staff are the BEST and the parental involvement is priceless. You will always witness parent participation at its highest level and where you child is applauded.
