If this is the standard for what is a good school, I question what is being accepted as adequate for the educational system in this area. Aids who have the responsibility of keeping an eye on the students require courses in controlling their own behavior and the principal should not be permitted to feign ignorance in issues that are brought to his attention numerous times throughout the school year by various parents. There is a lack of any accountability and staff members pass the blame on to one another, while the actual problems of discipline and conduct go unattended. I challenge any parent of a child at this school to see for themselves what is actually going on after they drop them off. Be proactive and spend time with them in the lunchroom, in the classrooms, TRY getting in to see the principal, TRY and see if they return messages, and see exactly what the children are learning is appropriate attitudes from the ones who are supposed to be role models. For those fortunate to receive any school imput, compare that to a higher ranking school as decide for yourself if you are willing to give your child Valley View's mediocre learning experience.
they have AWESOME special education teachers....my daughter has exceeded expectations.....
This is a great school!! They just received the California Distinguished School Award...and they truly deserve it!! Great job Valley View!
My son has attended Valley View for the last 2 years. His teachers have been great & his attitude toward learning has greatly improved. The teachers and staff are all very friendly and helpful.
This use to be one of the best schools in the area now it is one of the worst, The principal is never available, on the rare occasion he is there, he is not involved with any of the students or what is going on. Most of the kids have never seen him and dont even know who he is. The only thing I have seen him do is come to the defense of his teachers and staff when an angry parent has had enough. That leaves the vice principal in charge of much everything at the school and she is very rude and dishonest. This school cares more about there reputation then it does of the safety and well being of there students. They will not acknowledge serious behavior issues of there students and they have no backbone when it comes to enforcing behavior policies. The teachers are worse.
As the 2006/2007 school year comes to an end, all I can say is that VV is wonderful. This is my sons second year here, being here for 1st and 2nd grades, and we have been truley blessed with the wonderful teachers he has had. This school is very parent involved and has great pride. It is wonderful to see the Princepal or Vice Princepal welcoming the children to school every morning, it shows they're involved with the kids. My son is very excited about school 95% of the time. I would reccommend this school to anyone. Thanks VV...keep up the great work.
My son attended VV for 2 1/2 years before we moved to the other side of town. Big mistake! After experiencing Lancaster school district for just 1/2 an academic year, we are moving (at great expense) back to Westside Union. VV has a lot of parent involvement, and aside from one bad experience with one teacher, I had tons of feedback from the school; and I felt the teachers were grateful to see parent involvement. Also, VV was the only school around to offer an after-school program, very handy for working parents. Maybe it's not 'fair' to compare after such a terrible experience elsewhere, but we can't wait to get back into the district, and hopefully, Valley View itself. I believe Westside is the best district in the AV, and VV elementary is the best school my son has attended yet.
I was very disappointed in quality of teaching as well as the burned out teacher attitude expressed from 80% of the staff. I did come across a few teachers who seemed to love their field, but for the most part I saw far too many teachers with bad dispositions. My daughter's Kindergarten teacher (1st Yr) crumpled her spelling test and threw it away because she wrote ahead. My daughter was devastated not to mention horribly embarrassed! One of many unprofessional and very disturbing situations my child endured in Kindergarten! The principal is useless in these matters as she is oblivious to the screaming teachers around her. Some of the teachers need additional courses on discipline and responding better to children instead of intimidation and yelling. Other teachers at this school should consider a new profession.
I found this school to be awesome,my children transferred from the Lancaster school district. It met my expectations and more.I find the west side district a little more enthusiastic about teaching children.
We love this school. Our daughter used to be in a very expensive private school and when we transferred her here we couldn't believe how much better it was. All the teachers she has had are fantastic, in 4th grade she has mastered power point, and been given and learned how to use a PDA. They are on the money with the basics also. There is a lot of homework and they have to carry a lot of books around, but she is getting a great education!
