I love the small community feel- that everyone cares about all the children.
The school has gotten 100 % better since Mrs Urlich became principal. I am much more comfortable with knowing my kids are learning and if they are having issues they will be addressed.
Great elementary school! Friendly, approachable teachers and fantastic principle!
2008 marks my son's fourth year at Michell. I am very pleased with the Teachers, Principal and Staff.
Joe Michell is a great school. The staff and teachers are wonderful. My daughter is in 1st grade and she is thriving academically and socially. Many parents are very involved and always willing to volunteer. We are very blessed to have found such a awesome school.
Excellent academic standards, dedicated teacher, and above all, a great principal. Highly recommended school.
The principal has revitalized the academic standards of this school. Several teachers who were burnt out and unwilling to change their views of education left. New, fully charged and motivated teachers came on. The result is a sense of unity among the staff, a single-minded purpose for educating the students. It really makes a difference! Neighboring schools have huge boasting egos, which is easy when the student base is rich, white, with half the parents 'stay home moms' able to whip up fundraisers to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars. Money buys cool stuff. However, Michell has a diverse population including both low and high income families, and still the kids thrive! I am impressed by the challenged 'c' student who becomes an 'a' student, over the kid who has everything going for him and brags about his great report card. Likewise, I am impressed by Michell.
Joe Michell Elementary is the smallest school in the Livermore School District, and school environment is like a close-knit neighboorhood school, where everyone knows you and your children. The staff is truly top-notch! The teachers are professional, effective, fun, and full of enthusiastic energy. Students are taught at their level: the ones needing extra help get it, and the advanced ones soar. The Blended Services Language program (where children are grouped by reading level, not age or grade) is fantastic. Both my boys have greatly excelled at this school, and I have very high expectations. There are schools that boast more money, more 'bells and whistles'. But what it comes down to is kids really learning and growing in a caring place. That is what Joe Michell is all about, and the test scores prove everything I've stated!
I am a grandparent of a student at this school. I volunteer one full day each week in her class. I have done this for several years. These teachers always appreciate any help they can get. Michell is a caring community for any student to be involved in. There are many volunteers such as myself that believe Michell is more than a school to these kids. My own children attended Michell and grown to become productive people in this community and are sending their child to the same school! I think that says a lot about Michell. -P. Andersen
The teachers more than want you there! And there are many parent volunteers! I have been on the PTA/PTO board for the last 5 years. There are always parents ready to help. Many of our students have both parents working or come from bilingual families. In those cases they may not be able to help out with tutoring or helping out in class. If there is something that needs addressing at the school parents should contact a PTO member or the school office. We can't help you if we don't know what the problem might be!
We have been at this school for 6 years and feel that the school teaches to the state standards but not beyond! Very little parent involvement and teachers really don't want you there.
