Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Hi, Folks. My children look forward to school each day and they adore their teachers. As a mom, I appreciate the longer school days and the smaller class sizes. I also feel that the academic content of the teaching curriculum is far above what we received in the public school system. God is welcome in the classroom and my children are blessed and thriving. I highly recommend Our Savior Lutheran School for the nurturing of your child's academic progress and spiritual growth.

The teachers are very caring and provide a great environment for kids to learn. Small classes are also a benefit! Good sports program (volleyball, basketball, track)

My children have thrived in the warm, small school environment at Our Savior. In addition, the academic program is excellent. The school administration boldly selected a fantastic curriculum called Core Knowledge 4 years ago. In addition to high Math and Science standards, Core Knowledge focuses on World History and American History taught in chronological sequence which is integrated with appropriate Fine Art, Music and Literature at each grade level. Starting in Kindergarten, students learn about world geography, Mesopotamia, Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, etc, all the way through modern times in middle school. I loved it when my daughter was studying the Middle Ages in 4th Grade and simultaneously was learning about calligraphy and artwork in the Gutenberg Bible and Gregorian chant in the early church. American History is also taught from Kindergarten, providing a firm foundational knowledge of our country's unique history. The History and integrated Liberal Arts program is outstanding compared to the Social Studies that is typically offered in other schools. If you are looking for an enriching academic program in a nurturing environment, Our Savior is an excellent choice.

Today I asked my 5th daughter what she liked best about her school, Our Savior Lutheran. Boy was I surprised, and pleased, when she told me History! She likes the way they learn about History, Art, Music and Literature altogether which is very interesting and memorable. The curriculum is based on the Core Knowledge Sequence which is very rich and rigorous and content specific. Of course, she also likes it because she has so many friends there. I like the k-8 environment. It is a small school so everyone seems to know everyone.

I am a student at this school. Yes, it has become much smaller, but I love the teachers here. I have been at this school since pre-school. The entire staff is amazing and supportive. Kids will be kids, one of the other comments says students here hurt each other by chucking balls. That is a huge over statement. I am extremely close to my classmates. If you ever have trouble in a subject, there is always a teacher willing to help. They have not combinded the 6th and 7th grade as of now. I love this school so much. We learn a lot. The size of a school does not matter does it? It matters that we get a good education from the start. We have an amazing principle who actually interacts with us. Teachers and students are very close. It is not hard to make friends at this school because everyone is so friendly. The homer work loads are reasonable as well. For the fourth grade they have a revolutionary day where the kids dress up as revolutionary characters and they do all kinds of stuff. This school is wonderful! I recommend it.

This school is falling apart at the seams. It used to be such a great school and loving environment. That has dramatically changed this year. So many totally out of control kids in this school and they refuse to suspend as they would hate to lose out on that enrollment money that they soi deperatly need. Kids physically hurting other kids by throwing balls in their faces on purpose...and the teacher gives the kid a warning vs removing him from the classroom! I say this school is done in another 2 years..so many kids leaving that they are combining a 6th and 7th class so they save money on teachers! Never mind how the kids will all get the level of education they need...it's all about money at this school!

I'm very impressed with what the school has to offer: Core knowledge, Great sports programs (basketball, volleyball, track, cheerleading), music, spanish, commputers, PE, and much more....I'm so excited that the school continues through Middle School, it's a great foundation for my kids. I couldn't be happier.

Our daughter is finishing 1st grade and has received such a tremendous education and our son will also be attending the school next year in Kindergarten. Excellent education, community and teachers. With public schools slashing budgets at the expense of the children it is a no brainer for us to send our kids to Our Savior. I graduated from De La Salle H.S. and Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo - and I know that education is the cornerstone of our children's future. I could not be prouder to be associated with Our Savior.

Our savior is truly the intersection where faith and excellence comes together. The school is the first school in the area to use the core knowledge curriculum. She has already well into her 1st grade math and she s still in kindergarten. There s a large support of parent involvement. They even have track and field competition for the kindergarten children. While other schools are cutting back on music programs our savior is teaching music. It s a great place to be a parent of a student !

Our son has been at OSLS for seven years and we LOVE it. Excellent educators, helpful office staff and a moral code that is not found at many other schools. We are very pleased with all aspects of this school and would recommend it to anyone!

Thankful for a pubic school alternative. As our society puts less and less emphasis on respect, honor and moral behavior, it is a blessing to have a school who strives for these characteristics. Parent involvement is very important to me, OSL allows classroom and school developement input from its parents. Parent involvement that is heard and respected, not heard and ignored! Teachers who know & care for each student. Education that challenges all levels of students. Extra Activities that envolve all grades in school spirit, sports and family fun. A little know treasure to Livermore.

Even in these tough economic times, Our Savior is making every effort to keep all the 'extras' such as music, art, foreign language, technology training, and athletics. No school is perfect, but this school is working hard towards academic excellence within a loving environment.

The teachers are great: knowledgable, caring, and instill good values in the children. Have age-appropriate expectations for the children. School system is organized, provides many positive events for the children. The children are very well-behaved, due to the expectations and values communicated. The school system keeps close tabs on your child, and if anything is amiss, notify you immediately.

I love Our Savior Lutheran School because of the teachers, especially the fact that when there is a child out of place (or out of class) you immediately know where the child is supposed to be. Most of all though, the fact that my children can get an excellent education with wonderfully reinforced Christian morals is priceless.

It's been a privilege to teach in such a loving environment for 20 years. I'm honored to be an extension of Christ's love as I instruct and interact with students. Besides, where else would kids run across the school yard just to give a hug?

Great academics and caring teachers! Low student to teacher ratio and emphasis on technology. All three of our children attended OSLS from 3 yr. old preschool through 8th grade. From my personal observations and work with the administration, Our Savior Lutheran School is a 'gem' in the Livermore Valley Community. With lots of space for creativity, the school is an open and warm enviornment that lives into its mission. What I noticed about the students , teachers and famlies is a real since of purpose ad commitment to learnig. If you are looking for an academically challeging and spirituallly vigerous school for family, OSLS would be a 'thankful choice.'

When I first became involved with OSLS it was a great school. The staff were all on the same plan and the teachers followed the curriculum. As my child progressed through the years the curriculum got lost. Some teachers decided that Shurley English wasn't important and only taught it 2 days a week. Fourth grade was the worst. Neither teacher taught any English. They did love to give homework. As a fourth grader my child had 3 or more hours of homework a night. There was a lot of singling out by the staff at OSLS which in my opinion is unacceptable at a Christ centered school. I pulled my child after 6th grade because I did not have confidence in the 7th and 8th grade teachers. My child went from a low GPA to being an honor student in the new

We will be leaving Our Savior for next year and going to a public school. The current 4th grade is full of 'cliques' and if you aren't 'in' then forget it (parents & kids). The Christian values that are taught are not carried out in the social aspects of the school (after school care, recess, etc.) I would not recommend this school to anyone. We have hoped for improvements in academics and curriculum but haven't seen any in 4 years.

I love this school. My two children completed their middle-school years here with great academic success. They were both well-prepared for the transition to honors/AP level courses at Granada HS and excelled there because they had been challenged at OSLS. When we arrived at the school, my son, a seventh-grader, had progressed beyond the school's curriculum in math. His teacher was very willing to work with us to put him on a self-study math program that allowed him to take Algebra II in 8th grade. This school is a wonderful Christ-centered environment that I know greatly contributed to my children's academic success as well as their Spiritual faithfulness.

I have three children currently attending OSLS, one in 1st grade, one in 3rd grade, and one in 7th. We have been very happy with the school. The teachers are extremely caring, and the children are definitely given a good grounding in the Christian faith, and a sense of being individually nurtured. The school has a wholesome atmosphere; I haven't heard any foul language during the whole time my children have been there, and I like the dress code (uniforms). The weekly chapel is great with lots of singing and a message geared toward the kids. If you want a Christ-centered school, this school really does strive to instill Christian values. The academics are excellent as well. They are currently starting accelerated reading and math programs that are computer-based in addition to the regular curriculum, so that children have the opportunity to progress faster.

My experience at OSLS has been mainly negative. I do not feel my son was challenged at all and we experienced a high turnover of staff. The school is on a downward spiral, in my opinion. It's unfortunate after many years of attending. Particularly, we experienced a decline in the middle school.

School year 07/08 is off to a rocky start for middle school. Another year of tutoring. We will be withdrawing from the school-I really trusted they would fix their problems after last year. Beware anyone considering enrolling in this school. They were an outstanding school for years, but have seriously lost their way.

I feel Our Saviors is going through a high teacher turnover rate and that is disturbing as a parent. I think that the teachers in grades K-5 are doing a great job but that the 6-8 could use some improvement. For the money you spend, you would expect excellence and teachers just aren't providing that..Hopefully they will work on the turn over rate and get the school back on track, as it is steadily going down hill. The principal of the school is not very easy to deal with and is somewhat evasive and does not always address the issues at hand.

I'm a parent at OSLS whose children have been attending for 6 years. This year OSLS added Spanish instruction for all grades, and is planning to add extracurriculars like Knowledge Bowl, spelling bees, Jr. High student leadership etc. next year. The teachers seem to really care about the individual children and their specific academic needs, and I feel my children are treated like family. So far we've all been very happy with the nurturing environment and the high quality Christian education (good test scores). The Jr High in particular is far superior to other Livermore Jr Highs. (Bad language and poor behavior are not tolerated.) A nice school in general.

- submitted by a parent
May 30, 2007
The Junior High at Our Savior seems better than Livermore's public Junior Highs--Spanish, computers, and art are part of the core curriculum for all, and the test scores are higher. There are only 50 students per grade level, so the Junior High is also more nurturing for the individual student.

May 18, 2007
We've been at the school for four years and have seen a steady decline in the quality of teachers and academics-there has been a lot of teacher turnover. One of the previous reviews says that many students receive outside tutoring. I find that unacceptable when you are paying private school tuition. They lack school clubs and student leadership activities. The quality of the before and after school care is horrible!

- submitted by a parent
April 02, 2007
It is a good school in comparison to other Livermore schools but there is definitely room for improvement. It would be nice to see additional teacher development, especially in the lower grades, in helping children excel at reading and math. The test scores are confusing since the parents generally are highly motivated and many children are receiving outside tutoring. Overall parental involvement is what helps to make this a better school.
