Loleta Elementary School

Considering the tight, and ever tightening budget this school works with I have been very pleased. The 5th/6th grade teacher is fantastic, especially considering the difficult age/socioeconomic group he works with. I am also very pleased with the 1st/2nd grade teacher. My main dissapointment is they have not yet impletmented a GATE program, and there are some difficult children that are too frequently in trouble and causing issues for the other kids. I'm excited to see where the new principal will take the school. I have high hopes for this year.

I am very disappointed in this school.. Loleta has gone down hill in the last year, it is very sad to see the 'new' principal and the school board cutting programs that our children need to get a good education.. Who are they to say that our children are 'just price tags to them' i send my child to school to get an education and not to be pushed off to the side, because the teacher is over whelmed with way too many kids in their class.. At least when Mr. Malloy was there he took the time and effort to help our children and to see that they made it to the next grade.. What has this new principal done to help... All I have seen him done is destroy a great school into nothing in the matter of months...

This school is going downhill. Something needs to be done with the administration. The teachers however do, do a very good job

This school is in decline, the principal has neglected students, teachers and parents. His sole focus is the budget. Senior teachers have left and young teachers are lacking guidance. It it time for a change at the top.

I have had 6 children and 2 grandchildren go through Loleta school. Currently one grandchild attends this school. I miss the school that was! As small schools go, Loleta is probably average except for the 3rd grade teacher, who is awesome and the principal, who really seems to care about each child. There is a miniscule music program. Extra-curricular seems to be limited to 4-H and the boys and girls club. Spring and fall concerts or programs are a thing of the past. They do try to have a community program every other month or so, but it's more like a social gathering: ice-cream social, community b-b-q, family fun night (crafts), Spring Fling (minimal school carnival). Getting parents involved here is like pulling teeth. There is a definate 'Other side of the tracks' atmosphere within the kid's groups, although the teachers themselves don't seem influenced. Bigotry is swiftly disciplined.

Small student to teacher ratio friendly and beautiful neighboorhood setting. The school principle has made a great effort to incorporate computer learning into the classroom, implementing a literacy program that uses a computer software program to teach literacy to the students. The student population is highly diverse for Humboldt County. The school facilities are in need of some repairs and the poverty level of the student population is high. Parent involvement is high.
