I still currently go to Hughes, and it's a great school. All of the teachers/staff are awesome, strict, some of them are, but if you can behave and show you know they mean business, they're really nice. Respect is also a big part of when we learn here. Our principal, and teachers are constantly reminding us how to respond to an adult. Some students don't like this, but because they are in fear of getting in trouble. If they follow this rule when stopped, or even in any situation, it could help. The academics, and athletic programs and classes are great. Tests aren't always the best, but the teachers make it so much fun! Our school looks great, many students helping with the Hughes Goes Green program. I'm only going to 7th this upcoming year, but I've lived a lifetime here. I definitely recommend going here. It's a wonderful experience.

Hughes is a very well-rounded school. It boasts excellent academics (GATE and Honors Programs), athletics and various organizations that students may get involved in. The faculty and staff at Hughes M.S. care immensely about the students. We are proud to be past and present Hughes Parents!

this is overall a pretty great school. i enjoyed being in the GATE program. all the teachers are friendly and the campus is very clean. the only problem i have had was the PDA rule. even one simple hug can give you a chance to get suspended. id recomend any child to go to this school

I have been very disappointed in the quality of instruction my child has received in the TAP program. He has had almost no writing instruction in three years. Apparently the program was better in past years, judging from older comments on Great Schools. Recently there has been great turnover in the TAP staff. For example, there have been four 6 grade TAP teachers in the three years we have been at the school. This year all of the TAP math teachers are new transfers to the school. The social studies and English teachers transferred from the school just before my child started seventh grade, and the replacements for them were awful. I understand that it is difficult for a principal to staff at the last minute, but you have to wonder, why are all the TAP teachers leaving? We will not be enrolling our younger child at this school.

I'd have to disagree with the previous parent. Huges does NOT run on cliques. My son is very athelitic and very popular; and he (like many others) did not make the basketball team or other teams in the past. However, all of his friends do. So I disagree that teams are based on 'who-knows-who'. Our children aren't always going to make the teams they try-out for. Don't blame the school, just except it for what it is - that there were other students who simply demonstrated that they were better. I tip my hat off to the teachers, and admin staff for the overall experiences (positive) that they are giving to my child. I have no complaints. Hughes is a great school.

Hughes is a character diminshing school. This school runs on cliques. Don't encourage your child to try out for any team-sports if they are NOT in a particular clique. They will DENY anyone who they deem is not worthy. Even very athletic, intelligent and well-behaved students. The goal is NOT to build self-esteem or team work but to create teams based on 'who-knows-who' type-groups. Hughes has disappointed me time after time. Luckikly my child excels in activities outside of this small world called Hughes.
