This school has been a life saver for us. Teachers are available before and after school to provide extra help for those who need it. Some even give up their lunch breaks to tutor. This has been the case in primary and middle school. The school staff encourages students to work hard and expects good behavior. Friends who have children with special needs say that their children have been given everything they need to do well. The kids are so polite and the staff makes you feel like family. The principal knows every student and has brought great new programs to the school. The Parent Teacher Club adores her and stands by her leadership. We highly recommend this school.

The parents who posted good reviews on this site must have only independent/strong learners that need no school support. This works for only some students. I am a parent of 2 Placer students one of whom we had to move out due to the lack of resources in the special ed department, a old school principal who is not open to any change, and a teacher who can not understand how to deal with a 504. This school will drag their feet if you need your child tested for an IEP in hopes you will get so frustrated that you take your child elsewhere. I have spoken to literally a dozen or more good solid Loomis families that have left because of this same reason in the last 2 years. Ask around and you will confirm this. There is a handful of good teachers and many phenomenal Loomis families but that is all they have to offer. The principal has been reported to the superintendent so many times yet keeps her job. She protects the worst teachers at the school and evens gets them teaching awards! Sad -as this school has so much potential but until change from the top down happens it is just average to a strong student.

Our family experienced Placer Elementary for the first time this past school year, and we loved it! We felt safe, loved, and educated. The teachers, administration, and office staff are wonderful. We are looking forward to the fall!

We specifically moved to the Loomis School District 7 years ago so my children would enter Placer for Kindergarten. My twins are currently entering 6th grade and my youngest 3rd. Each year, each teacher and grade has been a wonderful experience. I moved my children from a private school to this public school and couldn't be more pleased with their academic performance. The K-8 environment is very community oriented. The older grades are encouraged to mentor or "buddy" with the younger grades. With all the budget cut backs, no one would know with the way Placer has adapted. We have a fabulous music program, a strong PE curriculum and drama department. The opportunity for parental involvement from assisting in the classroom to an enthusiastic PTC, really makes Placer a FAMILY school. Every teacher and staff member is committed and caring. You feel that from your first visit to the school office and meeting Mrs. Bergstrom to working with our principal, Mrs. Cowles.

Our child started at Placer in the 2006/2007 school year, she is now going into the fifth grade. She is the second child that we have had in Placer. Sometimes she has attention problems, however the teachers have all been understanding and have been outstanding with her. The principal and and school staff are wonderful with all the students that attend here. This is the one of the best schools in our district. We are very lucky to have such caring teachers and parents in this area.

When our first child attended Placer school some years back the teachers and staff were great but the principal was a prevaricating jerk. Our second Placer student is in 5th grade and we fortunately now have one of the finest principals, greatest teachers and support personnel in the entire state. Parental involvement at Placer is phenominal which reflects the dedication and quality of the leadership and staff.

This school is the best in the Loomis Union School District. The principal is positive, professional and dedicated to the safety and academic achievement of her students, as well as being supportive of her teaching staff. The teachers are positive, progressive and enthusiastic professionals. Most of the parents are involved with the school, support the educators and reinforce learning and behavior goals at home.

I love Placer School because it's a positive, caring environment with good leadership and dedicated teachers. The parents are involved in school and partner with the teachers and children to make our school a great place to be. Our students are great kids who continually strive to be better in academics and character, as do the educators at our school. Even with 11 additional unpaid furlough days, the staff gives time and energy to be there for the students. The parents support their children and teachers by being in the classroom or assisting with classroom work or sending in prizes for the children or even leaving the teacher a small gift of encouragement. It's a very positive and caring place to be with honest, caring, ethical people of strength and integrity. The focus is on children and their success -- not politics and not power.

I have 2 children attending this school, and they are absolutely thriving. This is their second year, and the teachers they have worked with have been terrific. The teachers have really shown a concern for the students; make them work hard, but not waste their time; and the kids really like coming to class.

This school is incredible. I'm a bit shocked at some of the negative reviews. If I had a choice of schools in the Loomis District, I would 100% stay at Placer.

I love the country atmosphere! A Principal who set a better example for the students would do much to improve the schools quality. Many teachers have years of experience and are super!

Poor teachers. My daughter has been at Placer since 1st grade. She has only had 2 teachers 1st and 3rd that have really cared about the students success.

Placer Elementary is a wonderful school that takes a lot of pride in themselves. It has a wonderful community feel. The academics are strong with an strong emphasis on differentiated instruction to meet individual kids' academic needs. The teachers and staff are caring, loving, interested and involved in each child. Placer has an Art Docent program run by parent volunteers, a music program for grades 3 and up, with band starting in 5th grade, musicals and drama productions, and talent shows. STAR, a California-based non-profit, offers after school extracurricular fee-based programs and after-school care. Sports programs are strong, including basketball, volleyball, track, cross country, plus intramural during lunch hours, like field hockey and flag football. Parent Involvement is outstanding. The Parent-Teacher club is highly organized, involved, pro-active and enthusiastic. They are responsible for raising thousands of dollars to help the school with various needs like computers, uniforms, playgrounds, track and $500 for each

The problem at Placer Elementary is with the 7 & 8th grade teachers. There is room for a few problems here. For math students had class time to work on homework however the teacher was not available to help students having problems. During this homework time, 1 tv on and 1 stereo were always on. The class is utter disorder with kids jumping over chairs running around. The teacher never corrected the homework, thus no incentive to do it. For science they had great books, great subjects but again the teacher NEVER corrected the science packet so again why take the hours and hours to do it when one can quickly put any word down and get it right. (one got an A if packet looked completed). In English, they wrote 1 essay/year where as Loomis elementary wrote 25 essays/year. In History and Science SOME kids got to take tests with open book

The academic programs are above average. Sports activities are limited; however, we moved prior to a new gym being added. The classes are to large.

What makes this school amazing, is the team effort put forth by the staff and the parents. There must be close to 100 volunteer parents who dedicate their time and effort.

Clear lack of proactive and positive leadership by the principal. The educational quality in the lower grades appears to be good, however, inconsistent from teacher to teacher. The K-8 system seems to have trouble providing an adequate education to the 7th and 8th graders. Very poor language arts program in the upper grades. The strength of the school is with the many quality teachers. There is a real lack of extracurricular activities at this school and there are virtually no elective options for the upper grades.

Profile Completeness

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.
