Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

I have 3 daughters at Covington and have been a part of this school community for almost 7 years. We absolutely value the experience that our children are receiving in the Los Altos School district and specifically Covington Elementary. The teachers, administration and staff are completely approachable and have our children's educational and social interests in mind. What we truly find priceless is the active family community. The amazing amount of hours that the parents volunteers spend at the school have made the entire elementary school experience worthwhile. The teachers receive an incredible about of support from the families which allows our children to have a much more enriched experience. I cannot say enough how incredibly critical these early years are and that Covington has far and away exceeding our expectations for a neighborhood public school.

Covington is an amazing school that is strong on every level: academics, citizenship, respect for differences, innovation (like the Kahn academy), and supportive community. My child is getting a fantastic education and truly loves to go to school. Top test scores, but tons of extracurricular activities, too. We also love how the students are taught to be global citizens, and to reach out to less fortunate districts. They do fundraisers, but also book donations, clean water programs in other countries, etc. Great school all around.

Covington is a dream school for our kids! Fantastic teachers, educational innovation, superb accommodations for kids who learn differently, strong focus on emotional intelligence, and very involved, caring parents. All along with great test scores and a top notch education. I can't overstate how lucky we feel to be able to send our children here.

I love everything about Covington and am excited to get back into school mode tomorrow! Covington's school spirit, staff, office climate, principal and custodian are awesome. My children thrive under the teaching staff and safe, supportive environment. It is no wonder Covington is truly one of the best schools in the state. I am so proud to be part of such a cohesive and supportive community!

I have four children who all have attended Covington Elementary since it reopened in 2002. We have enjoyed being a part of the community and watching it grow into one of the highest performing schools in the district. The facilities at Covington are outstanding. It has a large library, a science room, a multi purpose room and a huge playground. Covington School is also innovative. It was one of the first to pilot and integrate the highly esteemed Khan Academy math program. The principal works hard to get to know EVERY child at Covington. She also makes herself available to parents and openly listens to any concerns. Teachers in every grade work as grade level teams to best serve the students. We will greatly miss Covington when my youngest son graduates in 2 years.

Both my daughters attended Covington from Kindergarten. Now they are in middle school and my oldest daughter was just admitted to an elite private high school for next year. I credit the outstanding education they both received at Covington. They are both academically strong in all subjects. In each grade there was project based learning that integrated all subjects and turned them into superb writers and gave them the ability to present incredible oral presentations using technology. They always felt safe at school and our whole family enjoyed all the fabulous programs: Junior Olympics, Walkathon, Multi-Cultural Festival, Science Faire, Book Faire to name a few. Most importantly we have a very close community in our neighborhood because all our children attended our neighborhood school. I can't emphasize enough how this has become the bedrock of our lives, offering lasting friendships for the whole family! Neighborhood schools are one of the finest characteristics of raising a family in Los Altos. Both my husband and I developed relationships with our neighbors who also had children at Covington who will now be in our lives forever! We will always be Covington Coyotes!

My daughter has been at Covington for over a year and LOVE LOVE LOVE her school, teachers, and staff. I agree with her whole heartedly. Ms. Green the principal is a strong leader who ensures a safe and positive learning environment for all the students. The teachers all bring extensive experience, are highly educated, and are sensitive to student's individual needs. It's amazing how they all flawlessly execute a challenging and well balanced curriculum to a fine group of happy and successful students. The school staff and parent participation are simply stellar which attributes to the all around excellence of this school. We transferred from a small private school with reputable academic achievements and was initially concerned about whether or not a public school could offer comparable quality. It's a pleasure to share our transition has been seamless and extremely positive and I would highly recommend this school to my friends.

Our son is is third grade at Covington with our daughter starting next year. Best school you can think of. Great principal, staff, community, location and what not. You feel good when you drop off your kid in the morning and pick'em up in the afternoon.

The curriculums at this school is not the same as before perhaps due to budget cut. Some teachers remain wonderful but some still need improvement. The principal's leadership is really lacking, she tend to be so busy chating with certain parents about her daily outfits instead of getting to know her students. Unfortunately principal's leadership sets the tone for the entire school.

The teachers at this school are outstanding. We tried a private school in the area and realized our mistake. The community and the teachers at this school are truly special and we strongly recommend this school.

This is our first year at Covington and so far I am not too impressed by it. The curriculum is very average, the principal leadership is lacking so are the quality of teachers. I find the only thing that is keeping this school in order are the parents involvement at school and home.

This school continues to decline every year and suffers from less and less sense of a community, declining quality of teachers, stable and visionary leadership, and now 2 years of declining test scores

The school is an above average public school. It definitely needs to work on diversity issues and the quality of teachers are not homogenous.

My daughter is in 1st grade at Covington School. It is an *amazing* wonderful school - high standards for student achievement and behavior. Class size is 20 students for K-3. In Kindergarten, teachers team teach, so each classroom has 2 teachers for a good chunk of the day (a 10-to-1 ratio). The school follows the excellent Los Altos School District curriculum (and state education standards) which provides a strong academic base in reading, writing, math, science and social studies. Students also have weekly PE, library, art and music. Projects and critical thinking are emphasized throughout the curriculum, within the context of a relatively structured classroom environment. Covington is truly a community school. Children and families form strong friendships throughout their time at Covington. The school has dozens of family and community events annually. Students are happy and involved at Covington. Covington also won the award of 'California Distinguished School' this year (2006).

I think it is a solid public school. I also think the school could do with a little bit more diversity. My daughter loves the school and seems extremely happy to go off to school. I do not have any major negatives about the school so far.

Covington has quickly and impressively overcome many obsticles associated with the merger of several elementary schools in the area. The Principle and her staff have shown that quality in staff pay off. This school has one of the hightest standards of academics. The students are fortunate to have a principle who is a true advocate for students and embodies a cohesive campus. Like all Los Altos schools parent participation is a must and for many...it is a p/t job. Without this extension of staff (the parents) extracurricular activities would be drastically limited.
