My son is at Santa Rita from kindergarten and is now in 1st grade. They keep the class size small (about 20) and parents are encourage to volunteer in various activities at school. I like the attention teachers give students and would definitely recommend this school highly. They also have music and art classes. PE is rather limited.
Santa Rita is a good choice if your child comes to school with very little or no English. The school has resources, commitment, and expertise to welcome your child. The dedicated second language teacher, Mrs. Dickson, is a shining star, an expert in her field and a community organizer. Beyong acquisition of English as a second language in a comfortable, non-threatening atmosphere, there is not much going for Santa Rita. It has good scores because it draws on beneficial demographic factors and pays attention to the academics. That academics can be taught with as much success or more in a much more creative and interesting way is evident. This realization probably caused many transfers to Bullis, the local charter school. Pupils are showered with endless awards and preprinted certificates, given to the whole class. Their sheer number makes them useless. Reading is rewarded with lollipops. So much for a healthy, intellectually vigorous environment...
This is a great school for children. They have a nice ethnic mix. They also have great ESL program.
Fabulous sense of community, excellent teaching staff. Mr. Peck is the principal and does a great job! Parents volunteer for many things to enhance their child's education, why choose a private school when you have the best public schools you can get?
I feel this school and the district have a lot to learn about children. This school and district seem to care more about tests than the children. As a parent I give them a score of minus 10.
I am a single parent and looked around hard for a school that could offer my son the education he deserved. I moved to Los Altos so that he could have that education. Santa Rita has it all--fine teachers and a principal who cares. Santa Rita is definitely number one.
