Profile Completeness

HONOR ROLL

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Check out the schools near West LA, Brentwood and the Palisades. Almost all of them have a 9 or 10. You guys need to think outside the box. Even though I have not been there, I know by reviews that this is the last school you would want to go to.

Im a parent at Academia Semillas. I have a daughter in kindergarten and I love the Nauhtl and Spanish teachings. I hope they bring back Chinese. It pushes parents to be involved in your children's life by having many meetings and emphasizing the importance of encouragement at home. I recommend this school to every body. I know LACOE should be proud of having this school in their district.

At Semilla s my children are instructed and encouraged to become what an International Baccalaureate Learner is. The IB student profile is a risk taker, communicator, well balanced, caring, reflective, and open minded. They are truly building them to be leaders. The teachers have been directed by an administration that values tradition and works collectively. Semilla s was able to speed through the process of becoming an IB school because the school was already structured in a circular (collaborative) way. In addition to this, the students education is supplemented with Indigenous circular values, teachings, and language in Nahuatl which is a large American Native language that is spoken traditionally throughout North America. The children at Semillas also receive reflective teachings from other native nations. My children come home excited about Nahuatl and teachings from the Hopi, Zuni, Navajo, Tongva, Shoshoni, Chumash, Maya, Zapoteca, Perepucha, Tarahumara, Inca, and more. My children are receiving an incomparable education. I receive a rubric at the start of each unit, along with it the focus inquiry, and the expected final project that needs to to be accomplish.

It's true the school is far from teaching students anything about leadership. The school is overcrowded, and not well organized. The teachers are great, staff is unprofessional, those who think they are leaders are far from it, and the school is a mess. I believed in the school, and its intentions to continue to teach dual languages, our culture, and roots. I trusted this school with my children, but they failed miserably in promoting independent thinking. The school is test driven. One more thing, the school does have a lice problem. The person who wrote "an uneducated idiotic bigot" is a staff from Semillas, and so this is what you have to deal with. We are simply giving our opinions from a parents perspective, and should be respected without being attacked. My daughter was always getting sent home with lice notices. She was infected many time, now in her new school she hasn't had a problem.

Great school, if your looking for the traditional LAUSD school this isn't your choice. This is not a test driven school and encourages kids to be independent thinkers.

The lice comment was posted on Sept 07 an uneducated idiotic bigot and I can imagine what the posters children are like. Thank god my children won't have engage with them there anymore.

Worst School EVER! Beware of poor leadership. No follow up by any administrator. We are truly disappointed with the quality of education provided by this school.

My child attended this school and now they are at a nearby Elementary School. My children were/ are great at speaking mandarin, dancing, singing and have learned about the american indian cultures. The problem is that they were not fluent in reading, math, or writing. I had to move them in order for them to learn these subjects.

Academia Semillas del Pueblo is a blessing for my children. The education they receive there goes above and beyond on all levels. The curriculum that is offered is rich and engaging. The teachers are very dedicated to their students. They are giving our children the opportunity to become truly global citizens. The languages and culture are expanding the students outlook on the world around them. My kids love their school and that is very important to me. I've seen them blossom in this enviornment. They have a chance to ask questions and to learn from their peers. They are encouraged to be individuals and to be leaders. Semillas is the wave of the future!

We have two boys enrolled at Semillas, and could not be happier with our childrens learning experience. We home-schooled our children before we found this school, and had we not found it, would still be home-schooling. The directors, teachers and staff are all caring, loving individuals that make our children and parents feel at home away from home. We love our school because it is highly comitted to higher learning and creating community through collective efforts, and for giving our children a global perspective.

I am a mother who would have had to struggle financially to home school my daughters. I would have struggled if it were not for Semillas Del Pueblo because it is the only school in L.A. county that offers exceptional teachers, ciriculum and cultural strength & awareness. This school by far stands strong in building a strong educated community.

Strong leadership demonstrated by the principal et al. Office personnel efficient and caring. Parental needs and concerns are always taken seriously. If my child so much as sniffles or if he doesn't eat his lunch, I can expect to hear about it. As parents of a future global citizen, instruction in English and Spanish was the most compelling feature of this school. Mandarin instruction by a Chinese instructor what a bonus! Our child is incorporating his ancestors' traditions in a rapidly changing, high-tech world. Thank you Semillas for existing off the grid, so to speak!

As a parent and high school teacher, Academia Semillas del Pueblo is truly pushing the envelope when it comes to innovation. By incorporating cultural content, such as native languages from Mexico and China, along with engaging lesson plans (i.e. project based curriculum)to fulfill state standards, Academia Semillas del Pueblo is providing a quality education for all their students. It is truly a unique experience,I recommend it for all children.

Prior to my son's enrollment at Semillas he was mistreated and discriminated for he was culturally conscious and inquisitive. As a result he had internalized the negativity directed towards him from other schools and began to reflect these attitudes, occupying his mind from the 'banking method' of learning. At Semillas the experience has been different. He has been treated with dignity and as a result has positively engaged himself socially and academically. Now he flourishes and shines as a leader, student, and socially conscious individual. Semillas encourages creativity and takes into account 'all' methods of learning.Go Semillas! ~C.H

I believe it is an excellent school, my son has learned and I have learned as well about culture, about reading and writing. This is important because I hadn't received that education as a child, and we are learning together. There is a lot of unity between the parents and children in the school to resolve problems and to create.

Both of my children attend this school and are a major influence towards our decision of having them there. They love there school and are very happy to attend this school. As parents we are often challenged to make the best decisions for our children but after being a parent at Semillas since it's opening, I have to say we made the right decision, teachers like Ms. Hoffens, Mr. Felix, Ms. Goodoy and Mr. Aguilar have made our experience an educational and cultural experience.

My child will be starting ASDP in September. We didn t allow the narrow scope of the API score to be a final judgment on this school. If you re interested in a school, go to it, speak to the educators, get a first hand look at the learning philosophy of the school. Other factors that contributed to our choice of school included 2 daily physical education classes (most schools have none), daily music classes (unheard of in the LAUSD system) and daily multiple language classes(Including the undisputed business language of Mandarin). As a taxpayer who has gladly paid for other's education, I am glad to finally have a voice in using my tax dollars to fund schools in my area, that fit my family's needs. ASDP is a great balance of traditional concept and modern vision, and balance makes a kid great, forever.

If I could imagine a school where I could send my child and have it be an ideal place to learn, this is it! Teachers really care, all staff leads by example. Programs which have been removed from most other schools to try and meet state standards and win Title 1 $/recognition can still be found here; art, music, dance, tai-chi, various cultural immersion programs. Discipline, self-dignity, respect for self and others, motivation and the fact that staff takes each childs strengts and does not focus on 'weaknes'. They work with a child who may need help on different levels, whether academic or personal and really go the extra mile. This school was founded based on 'a dream'. I am glad my child can participate in this living dream.
