This is for the middle school. 6th grade has been disappointing. Our child suffered for it. Teachers are not interested. We will not be back.

The MIDDLE SCHOOL is disappointing. The teachers are not interested and the immaturity of the whole group is a problem. Looking for another school. We started in Kinder at the elementary level and had great luck most years, great teachers (NOT EVERY YEAR) but where happy, friendly, family environment, strong learning habits. The problems are endless in the MIDDLES SCHOOL, mostly with the teachers, unfriendly administration, tough kids that came in from others schools. Many problems. No extra curriculum activities. NOT AT ALL WHAT WE WERE TOLD THE PRIOR YEAR. Discouraging.

It is truly a wonderful place for my daughter. I could only wish a school like this could be found in every community in Los Angeles. The key ingredients for its success are involved parents, gifted teachers and an administration who is able to get things done for the kids.

I have been fortunate to have my daughter at Larchmont since kindergarten, the year the school opened. She is now in the middle school and has wonderful teachers. The middle school is developing and getting better all the time. We have had an outstanding experience at larchmont--the teachers are excellent and caring, as good as any at any private school. Great community and parent involvement.

This is my daughter's second year here at larchmont attending k-1 and I could not be more disappointed with her teacher. Times that I've volunteered she's seemed overwhelmed even though they have daily parent volunteers that go to assist her along with her TA. During parent conferences she's never had material to review ready. I am also disappointed that they do not give any homework and it's up the parents to come up with activities for your child at home to review so that they do not stay behind. I am definitly not recommending this school to anyone that I know. I was going to change schools for first grade but we decided to give larchmont another try which has just led to more disapointment and regret that we had not switched her to another school. There cirriculim and no homework for k-1 might work for other parents but I am not happy and have spoke with various co-workers, family/friends and they also would not enroll their child into this school. I will really miss the Administration since they 've been great and the close knit parent community everyone seems to know you and your child

This is for the middle school which they call IP: The administration is horrible, the teachers are not interested and are not good teachers. Most of the elementary Larchmont kids flooded out and the kids that came in are mean. Our child is experiencing racism and daily verbal insults. There is no feel of community and the education is all textbook learning, nothing like the curriculum our children where taught in the elementary school which is constructivist. You might as well be at your typical bad LAUSD public Jr. High School. A word of advice for Larchmont elementary school parents, run don't walk as far away from the Jr. High School as possible. We wish we had known. The Salons they do at the end of 5th grade are false, they make it sound dreamy and wonderful. Sad they could not keep the 6-8th graders at Hollygrove campus. Do NOT GO!! We are trying to find a school, leaving ASAP.

This is a response to the previous post that I found extreme in its negative portrayal of the middle school. I have two children there, one in sixth and one in eighth. We have been part of the LCS community for five years and continue to love the teachers and the constructivist curriculum. When problems arise, the administration has quickly and effectively resolved them, and both children are thriving socially. I imagine that everyone's experience is different, but as an active part of the school community, I am grateful that my children are here.

AMAZING! All your hopes and dreams for your child will be realized here. Art, PE, gardening, music, high expectations for academics as well as behavior, diversity, beautiful chef prepared meals, after school enrichment like swimming and Lego film making, smiling helpful parent body and admin staff that love their work! Chances are slim for winning the lottery but apply anyway! K-12 means you will never have to gamble your child's education or future again! I am laughing at the 9 rating...as if!

Admission is based on a publicly held (LAUSD supervised) lottery which anyone can observe. Hundreds of families apply for 66 Kindergarten spaces. That is the only reason it is "difficult to get in."

I cannot believe how lucky my son is to be at Larchmont. The education simply AMAZING and I feel is better than MOST PRIVATE schools. The community is open hearted and welcoming in every way imaginable. Not to mention, we go through 8th grade. Wow! My son never looked back once we left our prior charter school, nor have I. The difference is HUGE and I would not know where to start. I FEEL SO LUCKY TO HAVE GOTTEN MY SON INTO LARCHMONT! THANK YOU LARCHMONT FOR CARING ABOUT EVERY SINGLE CHILD!!

About the tests


In 2011-2012 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

The different student groups are identified by the California Department of Education; if there are fewer than 10 students in a particular group in a school, the state doesn't report data for that group.
