Over the past four years the GARR . Board of directors continue to demonstrate a pattern of violations of law, conflict of interest issues and self-dealing, fiscal mismanagement, and breach of material terms of its charter. The G.A.M.E.S governing board has a pattern stemming from at least 2009 of having issues related to governance and conflicts of interest.
I consider GAAR Academy of Mathematics and Entrepreneurial Sciences (GAMES) as one of the best elementary schools in the Los Angeles area. It has improved academically every year of our association. With a 4th, 3rd, and kindergartner we are still vested in the school for another 5 years. We look forward to continued growth in our staff, technology, community, and district support.
Garr is so great. I loved this school so much from when my sister attended that I brought my son here. The school is family oriented and make me feel loved everyday . they also greet each parents and student at drop off and pick ups. He teachers care really much about each child individually and also Mr.Green or great. the way the students run to him is warming . I wish that when I was in grade school it would. have been like this. I would have loved to come and would have been more successful with my life. students need more motivating environments like this. thanks Garr !!!!!
I I am a grandparent of a kindergarten at Garr I feel it is a great school my grandson is so smart he speak very well. I was so impress on how they are teaching the kids Spanish, it amazing to hear a 5 year old come home telling you how to say color and the pledge of allegiance in Spanish is very impressing because that show he learning and like school. He does book report and he love to read, he will get his book and ask you to let him read to you. Most kindergarten cannot sit still that long. I have raise two kids; both had to go outside of LA to get a good education, my daughter felt she needed to do the same for her son. Then the sitter who be taking care of him for 5 years told us about Garr once he started after a month we both agree it was a good choice. Before taking a way a great school take time to see how it will affect the student, I feel LAUSD does not think when they make bad decision.
Since attending Garr my child's reading has improved. The teachers care about the students improvement. So much so there was and is a reading program to help kids become better readers. The teacher that my child has now in 2nd grade is AWESOME she is firm but fun and loving and the children are learning. My child scored 100% on the spelling test and for us spelling big words is an accomplishment. Also my child is learning how to be a great scholar!
Next year I will be removing my daughter from this school , the staff here are very unprofessional and petty, my 1st grader was removed from class because the bottom sole of her shoe was white, I will be making a complaint today with thier District and I am gonna request that they do a state audit everywhere from the terrible lunch program to the after school program, this school was very unfair towards my child education I felt like they were very unprofessional and petty for letting my child miss a whole day of learning . I will be taking this matter further than principle Greene .
I decided to move my child from this school to KIPP Academy of Opportunity and WHAT A DIFFERENCE?!?! In looking back at my time here, I cannot believe what we endured. The policies were unfair, the professionalism lacking and the commitment to students' learning just wasnt visible. KAO is going to be a WAY better choice for me!
STOP BULLYING im very dissappointed with this school, they have to many students they do bullying to other students and when the staff workers see this bullying situation they dont do nothing to stop it. even the teachers ignore it, i think the education is to low in this school
The staff is very unprofessional, they do not seem to have it together. I attended a parent meeting which was sloppily and poorly planned. Parents were told it was a mandatory meeting and that their child would not be added to the new years' roster if they did not attend; however the staff were writing in names of parents who they did not see at the meeting. Additionally, the lottery for the remaining places was a travesty. New parents were told that there were open slots in certain grades and asked to attend the lottery only to be told at the lottery that the open slots were now filled, no longer available. The staff then basically ignored parents or claimed ignorance when they were questioned about why the open slots disappeared in a few hours after they informed potential students' parents of the openings. I would not recommend this school to anyone I know!
Teachers at Garr are interested in working hard every day to provide the best education possible for our students. There is excellent collaboration and we hold very high standards which the students work hard to meet. This school is on the rise and it's just going to get better and better! We are looking forward to another wonderful and productive school year!
I agree that this school posses some great qualities my son's reading and handwriting skills could not have been accomplished in many other places but, I do have a problem with the way that quite a few of their policies. Children are left to sit outside unsupervised if parents do not pick them up on time even though there is a supervised afterchool program. Too much focus on negative behavior, and several staff that need training on dealing positively with what they consider difficult children. Definite sensitivity and behavior training needed.
I love working at this school. The teachers are excellent and work together to provide a challenging academic program. The parents are helpful and volunteer for our many functions and events. It is a great environment and a great place to work!
The school is getting ready to celebrate Cinco De Mayo. Is awesome different dances from around the world. Second grade is doing Mexico and Third grade is doing Spain.
I really like this school. Today was my son first day of scool. It was good.
my son has attended this school since first grade now in fifth and the school gets better and offers more each year
Garr academy is on the move!! test scores went up, there were 500 parents who attended the parent orientation, there is awaiting list of 100 or more wanting to get in garr. The staff and adminstrative team is fantastic. Spanish and music has been added to the curriculum. Great school.
This school is horrible. They are not organized at all and the staff seem to just go through the motions. I am disappointed with lack of discipline this school has. I volunteered a few times and the school was like a brokers office (kids running, talking, arguing) and the teacher could not control these kids. I took my daughter out of this school. Garr use to have a good reputation, but not anymore. The school has changed a lot. Parents are not going to get what they expect because is not the same.
This school has great potential, but the VP who is in charge of dicipline need to take it down a alot, that is his attitude and approach toward his job. This VP and some of the teachers get frustrated very easily. One might say that when the going get rough they just give up. This kind of failure to reach and teach our children is horrible. Our chidren need to have dedicated and compassionate individuals to direct them; this is especially so in the inner city. Once this schools direction turns toward the true intent of the children instead of just making a mark for their selves then they will become a successful school. A few more of the issues at this school are: some of the children lack discipline, the school lack extracurricular activities and some of the staff really appear to be tired all of the time.
Garr is a great school. My child is having fun and learning alot. She enjoys the learning and the activites. Not P.E. but things like tap, modeling, and dance class. KEPP UP THE GOOD WORK....
My child attended G.A.M.E.S. for about two months and for the first two weeks of school my child was recieving homework that wasn't challenging enough.I dismissed because school had just started but, by the third week he was still recieving the same level of work as when he attended Pre-K and it stayed the same until I transferred him.I would go to the school occassionally and I never witneesed any extra activities going on. The supervision was next to none during play time.
