Delevan Drive is a great school which just got a 900 API and a 9 Great Schools rating! The principal, Ms. Velasquez, is excellent very friendly and hard working. Despite budget cuts the school has maintained an arts program and offers after school enrichment classes. The PTA is strong and parents are involved; we have just remodeled the school garden which looks great and a garden program is being integrated into the curriculum! My daughter is in K and her teacher Mrs. Nishinaka is fantastic. She has already learnt a lot and enjoys going to school. To parents in the area I would definitely recommend this school. And if you are not in the district there are usually open enrollment spots available. Check it out and look past the campus, which admittedly is a bit drab.

This school is excellent! My daughter has been attending since 1st grade and sadly this will be her last year, she just started 6th grade. All her teachers through her school years have been so great. The principal and staff do a great job. The PTA is awesome, thanks to it our kids have after school activities. We feel so lucky to have such a great LAUSD school just down the hill from our house, and last but not least, the after school program is also great to have, the staff are so good with the kids. Now we're wondering where to send our daughter for middle school? Is going to be hard to find another LAUSD schoool as good as Delevan Drive. P.S. I'm sorry to read a bad comment/review about Delevan, a teacher (Ms. Rivera) and our principal. I have never experienced anything bad with any of them or any other teacher re: my daughter or her classmates.

As a former student, I'd like to say how amazing this elementary school is. When I think of Delevan, all that fills my mind are positive thoughts & memories. The people working at this school have produced some of the most hard working people I know. Even the "troublemakers" have grown to be mature & successful. My fellow classmates now attend universities such as USC & UCLA. I firmly believe that because of these wonderful teachers, we were well-prepared to be successful in middle school, high school, & so on. I highly recommend! If I had kids, Delevan would definitely be #1 on my list. Now in regards to the previous rater complaining about one ot the teachers... I would like to say that first off, stating this teacher's name is going against guidelines & goes against her privacy. Second, this particular person was my 1st grade teacher in '97. Not once did I ever see her be negative towards anybody, especially a student. All I have to say is that she was the most caring of them all. If there are any real issues going on between you & this teacher, I'm sure that the problem started from your end & not hers.

Mrs Rivera was our daughters second grade teacher and from the very begining until the end of the school year this tearcher had issues and negative interactions with my daughter. Severval times arguing with my 8 year old and making accusations against her like another student would, instead of working towards a resolution as a good teacher would. After several complaints to the principal and no action ever taken concerning the negative learning environment my daughter was being expossed to, we decided to enroll our children at another elementary school. Please note that most of the revies written before 2010 are from a prior ledership (principle).

I love this school. My son has been at this school for 2 years and the teachers are incredible. The office staff is very friendly and professional. Delevan has great afterschool programs that are productive and fun. I'm happy with my son's teacher Mrs. Cantrell, she keeps me up to date on everything. I'm confident that my son is getting great academic knowledge at Delevan. I'm happy with this school.

I like Delevan Drive school. The teachers are very caring and dedicated. The office staff is friendly and helpful. My children love their school and I am confident they are getting a very good academic base. I am sorry there aren't more opportunities for the arts and physical education, but that's a state-wide problem and not unique to Delevan.

There is not a more dedicated group of parents and teachers that work to encompass the whole child and make the public system work. The parents teachers and children are beyond amazing and Delevan is a diamond in our community.

Delevan is conviently located close to my house so I walk my daughter to school. It was a great school when I went there for elementary and is still just as great now that my daughter is going there.

Delevan is a high achieving and now a distinguished Blue Ribbon School. The winning combination of strong leadership, caring and dedicated teachers, and a strong PTA and supportive community. Any family would be very fortunate to attend this lovely gem of a school

It's a smaller school with a cozier feeling. The staff and faculty are great and the facility well maintained. Our daughter was there for Pre-K last year and enjoying Kinder right now. She gained some great friends (who have great parents). From what I see so far, I wish the curriculum was more advanced since she could read, write, add, subtract, and so much more before she entering Kindergarten, but its a school and not a private tutor. I'm hopeful that as she advances thru the grades, the curriculum will pair up with what we do at home. They have a new Principal now and I think she will keep the momentum going.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

The different student groups are identified by the California Department of Education; if there are fewer than 10 students in a particular group in a school, the state doesn't report data for that group.
