Benjamin Franklin high school is the best school I have ever been to. There's always nice and respectful adults in campus.

Our school is fantastic. All the teachers and staffs are great. The only thing that i don't like is the school lunch. We have so much pride in our events. "Once a panther always a panther!"

I feel that this school can be better by having more inspiring teachers, be more motivated and to stop being negative. On the other hand, students should be motivated and willing to learn because teachers can do so much by having students wanting to learn! I appreciate Ms.Gonzalez, my councelor and Mr.Anderson my teacher because they show so much passion and deep concern for myself and to other students. I think the school can improve by each person individually being more involved and the education and welfare of each student. Sincerely Jacob

The school offers a wide variety of sports, actitivites and events. The number of clubs is tremendous, something for every student. After school tutoring is provided by UCLA's Beyond the Bell program to students who may need additional support. At a time when many schools are cutting the college counselor position, our college advisor is outstanding, and she brings numerous college recruiters from around the country to our students. It's a school with a proud tradition of academic achievement for those who are willing to take advantage of all the opportunities. We'll be 100 years old and proud in 2016. Go Panthers!

I think the academic programs offered at this school are great as long as the students are actively involved they can really learn alot. I believe the motivation should come from home i drive both my 9th and 10th grade sons to school everyday from Bell Gardens because they do not want to transfer to our home school. My 9th grade son is very active in the JROTC and he loves it he could not be happier my 10th grade son is actively involved in GEAR Up Program and many other programs offered at the school.

I think the Magnet Program at Benjamin Franklin Sr. High Sch is a very good program, the teachers are academically stimulating for those students who are there to learn. Sports program is also very good and challenging. All teachers and coaches I have met are right up there with the best. I have a 9th grader on Softball JV, they work em hard.......Range

The Principal is often not at the school site and he takes a long time to make a decision. I do not think they do what is in the best interest of the students just what is easy for them. The teachers were easy to talk to.

Very disappointed with this school, unfortunately I couldn't change my stepsons to another school. There is no dedication from the teachers, they don't motivate the students to move up and reach their goals. Discipline for the students and dedication from the teachers would help this school.

The school provides afterschool programs and saturday school to help students understand their troubling subjects. This is really good because it helps them raise their grades in order to graduate.

I currently attend Franklin High School. In my one year experience here I like Franklin alot. I know student who don't but that is because they dont get involved. I happen to be very inolved and I volunteer very much. I am in leadership, La Raza Unida, Environmental Club, Flags, Magnet Program, College Match, and I help out in the college office. All these programs I'm in really help me and will help me out in the future to get me into, I hope, a prestigious university. So my advice is to get your child into the Magnet program which has the best counselor, Mrs. Robinson, get them involved in the school's many programs and extracurricular activities, and for him/her to get good grades for him/her to succeed and find high school interesting, fun, and a great experience.

In four years at Franklin High School, I learned so much, a lot of the things I apply in my everyday life from some of the most dedicated teachers in the school. I believe the key in lifting the students' ambition for doing their best in there exams lies in becoming their friend, allowing the student to give their input, allowing them to decide how they want to prep. I do not think enforcing anything on a teenager who is always a bit rebellious will lead teachers anywhere. As a former student of this school I know first hand how a Franklin student's mind works. Learn to work with the students to develop new ideas on improving methods to lift these scores. Franklin should not fall into a stereotype of an underprivileged school. I do believe that the students there have a passion to learn, but teacher and administrators need to learn to tap these great resources.

About the tests


In 2012-2013 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

The different student groups are identified by the California Department of Education; if there are fewer than 10 students in a particular group in a school, the state doesn't report data for that group.
