My children attend Glenfeliz Elementary School and we have been very happy there. There are a lot of opportunities to get involved at the school - Friends of Glenfeliz, the PTA, etc., plus lots of great events like Family Reading Night and movie nights that bring our community together. I know some people have issues with our principal, but if you live in the area, I strongly recommend giving your local school a try. (Also, per some of the complaints, there are definitely low-cost after-school programs, even the enrichment program offers scholarships!)

Excellent school, my daughter has learned so much!. Please take the time to speak with the teachers and other parents if you are considering Glenfeliz. My daughter is now in 1st grade and we have had a wonderful experience. The principal is a bit animated but seems to actually care this year since our API score has dropped below 800. Se seems to be tryig in the right directuon. There are afterschool programs for ALL students! not just the ones that can afford it. All of the programs are LOW to NO cost. We love the afterschool Homework club and Enrichment classes. There is parent involvement more than other schools and the seem to really ccare.

for prior postings..i thought teacher names were not allowed??????? after school programs, only if families can afford them...small class sizes...only because others have left the scene...poor school safety: absolutely; any support or "extra" amenities for students who need anything out of the ordinary: non existent.....

Our child just completed her first year and we could not have asked for a better kindergarten teacher. The instruction at the school is outstanding, and there is an amazing after school enrichment program! Our experience with faculty and administration has been overwhelmingly positive. Glenfeliz Blvd. Elementary is an Atwater gem!

Our local school is just two blocks from our house, works hard to respond to parents and provide culturally-competent instruction, and offers a socioeconomically diverse environment, where our children can learn what the real world of people around us is like.

The New Principal has got to go!!! She is not on the ball about anything!! I first met with her in November of 2009 because I noticed my son s grades had dropped from the previous school year. I requested that my son be moved to another 2nd grade class, but she refused and wanted to do things her way. Well, now we are in March of 2010 and nothing has improved. I recently complained to the principal about my son s teacher yelling at him in his face, and told her to pull my son out of class and ask him what happened. The principal never spoke to my son about the incident with his teacher. Long story short, parents who have complaints about this new principal at Glenfeliz, please send your letter to Ramon C. Everything at this little school is excellent except for the new administration that comes from the neighboring Atwater Elementary. It seems the parents complained so much that LAUSD responded with a transfer. Basically the new principal attempts a syrupy facade of a caring head honcho, but is proving to be more of a procrastinating authoritarian who neglects child safety on the schoolyard as well as in the classroom. It's unfortunate that LAUSD chooses to move Lemon Principals around instead of letting them go... :(

I am so happy with this wonderful neighborhood school. My daughter is in a kindergarten class of only 12 kids, has an outstanding teacher and is really enjoying the kindergarten experience. The after school enrichment program has been an amazing experience for her, and allows me to pick her up after 5 pm on the days she participates. The school administration is very welcoming and positive as well.

My son was also in Ms. Pimentel's class and my son learned to read and write so well. He also learned addition and subraction. She is a great teacher. She communicates a lot with the parents and always lets us know how our children are doing in the class. Her teaching standards are high.

My daughter learned so much from Mrs. Pimentel's kindergarten class! Mrs. Pementel challenged her students academically, and with additional work; even during our kid s summer break. It is obvious that Mrs. Pementel has always done more than expected, and for this I am so grateful!!!! I highly recommend any new parent at Glenfeliz to request Mrs. Pimentel as their child's kinder teacher!

I am a Glenfeliz alumni. Glenfeliz was an outstanding school in terms of teachers, curriculum, and the community. I have nothing but great memories of my dedicated and caring teachers and supportive staff: Mrs. Townsend, Mrs. Chan, Ms. Hensleigh, Mrs. Marks, Mrs. Douglas, Mr. Black, Mrs. Baker, Mrs. Kemp, Mrs. Myers, and Mrs. Brodnax. I was inspired so much by my teachers, that I went on to become a teacher myself. I am very proud to be teaching at my Alma Mater. Today, Glenfeliz continues to be a grreat family school where everyone takes the time to know and care for each other. Our students needs always come first. We have PTA and Friends of Glenfeliz who are always dedicated to serve our students as well. If you are looking for a safe, friendly, and academically enriching enviornment for your child, then Glenfeliz Blvd. School is the place for you.

Mrs. Pimentel was the best teacher my daughter could have for her first year experience in an elemtary school. She was very helpful and understanding and got my daughter off to a great start!!

I also had my child in Mrs. Pimentel's kindergarten class and he had the best time there. He learned so much in her classroom. Whenever it was apparent to the teacher that the students had grasped everything in her curriculum, she always challenged the students academically with additional work. It was always apperent that this teacher always did more than was expected of her in the classroom for our kids. Also, Mrs. Pimentel made it possible for all the parents in the classroom to network and work together outside the classroom to ensure that they have a memorable and rewarding year. I recommend any new parent at Glenfeliz to request Mrs. Pimentel as their child's kinder teacher!
