Bruh, I've been here for 2 years bruh. Im a 7th graders . This school is fabalous and Perfect . The only thing I didn't like was Ms.Nathans class, I think she needs a lot of improvement. Despite that I would recommend any students go there !
I am a parent of a sixth grader at Palms and am pleased with the curriculum however not pleased with some of the teachers. Unfortunately, my child had an incident with a teacher that the staff is investigating however after following up on the status of this investigation, I have received no response. Parents should make sure to speak with their children to find out what is going on in classes and to see how their children are being treated by teachers. You would be surprised by how some of the children are treated by their teachers.
Great school!!! I have an eighth grader and our experience has been wonderful. Teachers and staff make this school one of the best any parent can think of. Whenever you have an issue, they try their best to solve it.
I have a child in eighth grade and I have to say that middle school at Palms has been one of the best experiences we have had. The teachers, the staff and the parents at this school are great. The environment and the opportunities offered at this school open new horizons for our kids.
I am so thrilled to read all these reviews that confirm my own experience at and opinion about Palms MS. We've had two kids there and it's just been a wonderful school for both. I understand the special ed program is really good too though we don't utilize that. But I see the kids all the time and everyone appears really happy and loved. I know Palms MS is huge, but that just means there are a huge number of superb teachers. It's really a remarkable place. The new principal is a gem too. Parents are involved but more of their involvement would be an area of improvement I'd say. :(
I am blessed to have such an excellent neighborhood school for my children. The teachers are dedicated to teaching at a high level for all students. The parent groups are strong and with that great combination no wonder Palms is the best Middle School in Los Angeles!
awesome exept for lap day and some kids smoke weed lol jkjkjkjk JUST KIDDING!!!!!!!!!!! lap days is when you run around the pe side in 15 mi. to see how much you can run in 15 min. and it is once a week
Palms is an amazing school. I am greatful for being given the opportunity to have my child attend.
I am currently the parent of a 6th grader and a high school freshman. My freshman son completed his 3 years at Palms Middle School and now my daughter is there. We have all been very happy with the school - particularly the teachers and the relatively new Principal. Of course there is room for improvement but the school and administrators are aware of that and (another great thing about the school) open to suggestions. I am just so happy that my kids have been able to stay in public school from elementary through high school.
Palms Middle School has been a great experience for our 8th grader. Experienced, dedicated teachers. A passionate principal who is a "doer". Great music program! Good community school, a lot of parent involvement. Our 2nd child just started as a 6th grader and we expect the same wonderful experience.
My eldest graduated from Palms this Spring and is now in the Humanities Magnet at Hamilton. He was very well prepared for the rigor of the Humanities program - thanks to Palms. My middle child has just started 6th grade at Palms and is very happy so far. A couple of shout-outs to some amazing teachers - Ms. Mullen, 6th grade English & History, Ms. Wohl, 7th grade history, Mr. Reynolds, 7th grade English, Ms. Eddington & Ms. McCarrell, 8th grade English & History respectively, Ms. Tawijiri - fabulous math teacher. Palms is big and it can be disorienting to come from a smaller elementary school environment where everyone knows everyone else and one was likely to exchange a few words with your child's teacher most days at drop-off or pick-up. It's more challenging to get in touch with teachers here than we're used to in elementary school. But all can be managed with a little bit of effort.
Palms has been a great experience for my daughter and our family. The new Principal, Dr. Moriuchi, along with many involved families have welcomed new students and families into the Palms Middle School family, and there is a real, growing sense of community there. That, and the incredible, engaging, caring teachers, have made this experience exactly what we hoped for for our daughter.
Palms Middle School has been an amazing school for our boys. Our oldest culminated from the magnet program in June having had three amazing years. He enjoyed learning from a wonderful staff of teachers. Our other son is currently in eighth grade also in the magnet program and has had the same incredible experience of learning from amazing teachers. Dr. Moriuchi is a wonderful principal and has an open door policy. He encourages parental involvement. Mrs. Weissman is a wonderful counselor. The parents really care about Palms and fundraise to help pay for programs not paid for by LAUSD
Students at Palms benefit from dedicated teachers, a sharp new principle and involved parents. It's a big school, but the kids seem to flourish. As mentioned by others, the music program is excellent.
Palms Middle School is fun, educational, and cheerful. All the school activities are never excluding anyone. What I mean by saying this is that everyone plays in the 6th grade Olympics and everyone dances at the school dance. (That is if they are eligible.) Eligibility is not hard to reach. It's like a 3.4 grade average. As long as you work hard it will pay off. The thing that they should change is the school lunches some of the lunches are fantasic but some are not so great. However, the service is great. -Go Palms Panthers!!!!!!!!!!!
I choose Palms after touring the school twice, what wasn't clear was that the only classrooms toured were the Magnet classes. My child is highly gifted but did not get into the magnet. The SAS classes offer very little in terms of curriculum and homework consists mostly of worksheets that are very easy for my child. The English class has zero outside reading although my son loves his teacher. The only thing keeping us there this year is Mrs. West, the music teacher who I must say runs an incredible program keeping the kids engaged and focused. The school offers zero outside enrichment. There is one after school care program, but there is no way for the kids to connect outside of the classroom. Sadly we will not be returning and implore you to ensure this is the school for you if you do not get into the magnet program as the general education offers no challenge for the gifted child.
Palms Middle School has excellent hard working teachers. It has an AMAZING band and orchestra! Ms.West is the best instrumental teacher ever! Im currently a 7th grader and I'm in Gold Band and i started in winds the band theres Blue and Gold band and stings and Orchestra. The office is a little unorganized but out of all that its a great school. If you put your child in Palms you wont regret it. The NEW principal Dr.Dereck Moriuchi is an active principal who gets involed and does'nt stay in his office all day. Im being serious sign your child up for Palms Middle School!!!
I think Palms is an amazing school. I've just recently graduated from this middle school and I have been accepted in Mira Costa High, one of the best, high ranking high schools here in California.
This is a horrible school... teachers are uneducated and takes their frustration out on the kids. They never return calls and allow kids fail without getting parents involved.
This is a great school! The teachers care about the kids, the staff care and the kids care about each other! Middle schoolers kind of lose their minds around this age and think they can skate by with limited effort like they did in elementary school, so it takes a lot of patience to guide them into learning skills like organization and time management. My kids still don't have it down but they're learning at a great place. Palms is terrific, and I'm sorry for the complainers who are not having as good of an experience! Any time we've had a problem it's been addressed right away. No matter where you are - parents need to be involved with their own child's education.
