A great public school that has had some difficulties with leadership for the last 3 years. Their academic standards are high and have remained competitive with the private schools. My oldest went on to Harvard-Westlake without any problem. They have a wonderful coach who enters the school in many city wide sports competitions. I guess my criticism lies with the changes in principals (3 in 4 years) and how willing they are to work around the massive restrictions of the larger LAUSD. And as in many schools, there are a couple teachers who should really retire. Still my family has had 12 good years at Warner.
This is an amazing school with diverse ways of teaching. I sent both of my kids there and I never regreted it.
I am a warner ave. alumni, Warner was an amazing school with great standards. The teachers were all amazing to me except for one year of warenr. Now I currently do not seem to fnd any problems with teachers that my sister has. I graduated Warner in 2002, and I wish Warner was a middle school. Warner has a great program, I was taught more there then I am in my new school ( which I will keep unidetified). There were also great sports teams, who in my years always seemed to make it into the finals even when I was on the team. The teacches and staff give great care for the kids. The only problem with the school is the principal. Once the original principal left the school went downward and still is today (2005). I hope this improves. Overall this is possibly the best school in LA .
I have heard that this school is the best public school in the LA area. Kids here go to the best private high schools in the area. The area is very ritzy and the demographic is like a private school.
Great teachers. But very traditional. Lots of homework. Not a creative approach. Nice mix of students in terms of race and income level.
Fine for most. If you need acceleration, this is not the best choice. Families are warm and involved.
Warner Avenue is an incredible school. The parent involvement is excellent, with an active PTA and a Booster Club. Fabulous sports--we have, I think, the best coach in the city. Booster Club funds an outside music teacher and a Great Works of Art program. The best thing sbout Warner, however, is the quality of teachers we have. They are fabulous and hard-working.
Warner has excellent academics and terrific teachers. For kids that fit 'within the box' this is a great school. For children who think and learn differently, this is not always the best place.
We loved Warner. Mr. Kaufman is a gem; his door is always open. The kids are nice and there is a zero tolerance for bullying. Our child was wonderfully prepared when he entered middle school. The parents raise a lot of money and the school, therefore, has many extras not found in other public schools. If you are lucky enough to live or work in the neighborhood send your child to Warner. The only negative I perceived was that some of the parents are very territorial and resent kids on permits.
Warner is mostly overrated. The test scores are high but that probably has much less to do with the quality of education and much more to do with the high SES of the children who attend this school. There is quite a bit of a snobbery factor to the school although most people are usually pleasant. The new principal needs to do a better job of working with parents. The STAR program is fine but very expensive and seems to close a lot.
I was a student at Warner Ave. years ago, and am now a teacher at another elementary school in LA. When I was looking for a teaching position, I was looking for a school just like Warner. The was amazing then, and I know from children who live in my neighborhood, that it is still wonderful. I have only the most fond memories of Warner, and would highly recommend it as an incredible neighborhood school.
