I am so greatfull to this school. This school came right on time when I was Running out of. Options. My son started school in the Culver City school district. When he was ready for fist grade we were told he needed a school permit. The Permit was denied. But finally was giving to us for that year. When 2nd grade came It was dinied again, but thank god WISH was here. I Love this school, the teachers, and the staff is great. But most of all my son loves it. Thank you WISH.
This is our fourth year at WISH, and it is more than a school to us- it's a second family. The teachers are so hard-working, innovative and supportive, and Principal Draxton is the heart of the school. I can't imagine our daughter being anywhere else.
Great school, great teachers, great students, great parents, great community. Blessed to be part of wish!
We love WISH Charter. We really appreciate the whole child learning philosophy. The staff, teachers, and Principal are amazing human beings. They love what they do and it shows. Our Kids feel it and the parents do too. My daughter, now in 2nd grade, loves school, is an avid reader, and has developed friendships with other students. Every year, the teachers work together as a team. They like each other and support each other. The community of families is warm, inviting, and generous. THe class sizes are smaller than regular public schools. The curriculum is engaging and varied. They have PE (twice weekly), Music (twice weekly), and Art every week. If I ever have a concern (and I did), the Principal is available as well as the teachers. I just don't really have any negative things to say. We feel very blessed to be at WISH. It feels like a private school!
This is a amazing school. The involvement of the parents is out of this world. Children are reading in TK! There is a broad curriculum available to ALL students (art, music, P.E.) There is a strong, professional and involved principal (Draxton) It's believed that all children can learn. A fantastic environment -- safe & clean
We started at WISH in kindergarten when the school first opened and we couldn't be happier with our decision to send our daughter here. We love the inclusive classes and diversity. The teachers are caring and go out of their way to reach every child and accommodate needs. While we are not thrilled with the new campus, we believe that Principal Draxton will do everything in her power to make it it's best.
WISH is the best school, hands down. This is our first year, and our daughter loves it. She actually looks forward to going to school each day filled with excitement. Everyday is like an adventure for her as to what new thing will she learn. Physical education, art, and music is very rare to have at school these days. Excellent teachers and staff.
This is our 3rd year at WISH Charter and it just keeps getting better each year. The teachers are amazing and treat every child and family as an individual. The teachers are always available and go way beyond the call of duty to serve the children. Principal Draxton is a phenomenal leader and leads by example. Every day she visits the classroom and spends most of the lunch and recess periods with the children. It is clear her and the teachers main focus is on serving the children. The parent involvement is great and parents are always welcome. In addition to the core curriculum, WISH provides art, music, technology and PE. It is a great school with a sense of community. At WISH all children are loved and educated, regardless of ability. We are so thankful that our children are a part of WISH and we love our WISH Community.
This our daughter's second year at WISH, she is currently in 1st Grade. My husband and I are so happy with the school. When our child first arrived she started reading within a week! The teacher gave us individual guidance about both what was happening and a map for what we could do at home to support growth and make the learning experience positive. Our daughter is now thriving in 1st Grade, looking forward to every day's lessons. We are excited about having our youngest daughter follow in her sister's footsteps next year. WISH is amazing, we feel it is a community of families, where there are so many volunteers, and highly trained staff, it is a place like no other. We live over 30 miles away, but battle the traffic everyday, because it is worth it, and there is no school like this near us. Signed: Happy Parents.
WISH is an amazing gem hidden within the wasteland of LAUSD. I really appreciate the fact that WISH has a mission that it centers on. The mission of WISH is to maximize every child's learning potential within an atmosphere of caring and belonging. The core element of the WISH model is inclusive education, meaning that children who develop typically, children with special needs, and children who are gifted all learn side by side. Luckily, my daughter started kindergarden at WISH when it first opened in 2010. She is in third grade now and my son is now in kindergarden. The teachers and staff are absolutely amazing. The parents are fully dedicated and actively involved to supporting the school and its mission. Not only are my children receiving and excellent education, they are learning to become better people who are empathic toward others.
We just joined the WISH Family at the beginning of the school year, and WOW! The teachers are impressive in their passion for teaching and for the kids. The parents are also involved and have created a strong and welcoming community. Everyone works together to support each other, the teachers and the kids. I've never seen anything like it and we feel blessed to be a part of it.
PART 2 As you can tell, I am passionate about WISH and in comparison to a traditional LAUSD 10-rated school well there is no comparison. Every administrator and teacher at WISH have applied directly to work there. And every family is there because they applied to be there. This makes for a very enthusiastic community of passionate active people. We are loving WISH and are really thrilled that they are opening a middle and high school! We plan to be part of the WISH family for the next 12 years!
My child is new to WISH and in the 6th grade. The school had hoped to establish a traditional middle school for this school year to accommodate their first culminating class but had to compromise with adding the 6th onto the elementary school. However, the principle and teachers are all working hard to find out what the 6th graders want to make them feel like they are more like 'middle schoolers' . Even though the students are receiving all sorts of extra curriculum like Spanish and performing arts, the students didn't see it as electives, so the school is trying to set up mini elective courses to make the students get more of the middle school feel to their day. I am just really impressed at how much the teacher and administration care about how the kids view their educational experience
I'm a parent at WISH Charter for a third year now, and I am continually impressed with its outstanding faculty and administration, not to mention the deep bench that is the parent community. WISH is a perfect example of great leadership and grass roots organization. Our teachers have been exemplary, and Principal Draxton is an incredible leader with vision. WISH plans to expand in the years to come, and I hope they do. I love the small class sizes, the inclusion of children with disabilities, and the constructivist approach to education. And may I say again, the parents at WISH are the bedrock and engine for the great things that the school does. I'm proud to be one of them.
I love Wish Charter because every child is treated as an individual learner. My children are able to access education in a way that works for them. They participate in enriching activities that allow them to experience curriculum in a multitude of ways. The teachers at Wish go above and beyond to provide our students with engaging curriculum and positive behavior support. Our new move has been a challenge, but in typical Wish fashion, the faculty, staff & parents have come together as a community to make the school the best place for our children.
WISH is the best school in Westchester, Ca. My son is in the second grade at WISH and loves to go to school. Award winning teachers and the best principle in the west! I am very proud and lucky that my child is a student there. I can't wait until my other son will be starting Kindergarten there next year! They have music, art and computer classes and much more that other schools just don't offer!
Public education at its finest. Our son started the first year WISH opened as a Kindergartner. This year he's in 3rd, and younger sister started Kinder. Both kids are learning, thriving, being challenged, supported and appreciated for their uniqueness and hard work. The teachers are brilliant and committed. The principal is so responsive to suggestions --and since her kids go here as well as all the administration's children there is school-wide investment in our success. The whole child approach and constructivist philosophy is a good fit for our family. Our kids are ahead of grade level in the basics, plus they're learning computer literacy / coding, art, music, PE, community service, conflict resolution, environmental responsibility...it's a dream come true. Plus we ride our bikes to school. Our school could improve by having more 5th, 6th and 7th graders to feed into our middle school and high school charters, as I'm not alone in wanting to build a first-in-class K-12 school.
WISH is a great school !!!!!! it is amazing to see how teachers ,parents ,students and the community work together to create wonderful things . The minute you walk inside the school you see nothing but happy faces . I see that my kids are learning and the most important thing is that they are excited to go back the next day . Principal Dr Draxton is a great leader she is always walking around the school ,making sure childrens needs are meet .
My girls have attended WISH since it opened in 2010, when they were starting Kindergarten. As an employee of a prestigious private school I wanted to find a similar environment for my girls. WISH was definitely the best place for our family. We've been blessed to have AMAZING teachers throughout the years. There has been a few bumps in the road. However, the administration has always done a great job at addressing my concerns and fixing any issues I've ever had. WISH is a safe, nurturing environment. Although, I'm not thrilled at the move to the new location where we're sharing a campus with a junior high school. WISH still manages to keep our kids as safe as possible. We love the WISH community. The Parents are great and very active.
My son started Kindergarten this year at WISH. I have spoken to several parents and they all love it there. My greatest measure of the schools quality is my son's enthusiasm about school. He wakes up every morning and dresses himself in his red white and blue school clothes and begs me to get him there early. I like the combination of computer based and traditional paper homework. The online homework program allows my son to keep track of his time and it rewards him when he masters a skill. He is able to work on it independently.
