Academic focus and philosophy

Educational philosophy and approach to learning We believe one-to-one classrooms are the best way to connect with a student. When students feel heard, understood, and supported, they’re better able to learn. Course material is taught at a pace and with methods that meet each student’s academic status where they are. Homework belongs at school to eliminate the impact on family time at home. Our teaching goes beyond traditional academic subjects to include music, art, wellness, and life skills to best prepare students for life after Fusion.

Parent involvement details Fusion has an open door policy and welcomes parents to be active participants in their child’s education. Parents receive regular communication from their child’s teachers and our Fusion staff. This includes: teacher daily updates, monthly email communications, Parent Ambassador meetings, Parent/Community Education Events, and quarterly reports.
Approach to addressing and preventing bullying Providing a safe and comfortable environment is a priority for us. We take issues such as bullying very seriously and like our individualized teaching approach, we also take an individualized approach to supporting appropriate behavior. Each case is evaluated by the school administration, who will determine the appropriate course of action to remain enrolled at Fusion Academy.

Staff details Our teacher/mentors come from a variety of backgrounds and teaching experience. They each are masters in their subject matter and are encouraged to be authentic and creative. Teaching “to the test” doesn’t exist here; we focus on mastery learning and critical thinking. Teachers and administration collaborate regularly with each other, leveraging the strengths of the student to find a learning modality that works for each individual student.

Enrollment

Application/ enrollment process details Enrollment at Fusion is simple. First, you’ll meet with our Head of School to talk through your child’s interests, strengths, and challenges. We’ll share some information about our mission and teaching approach, tour, then talk about whether Fusion is a good fit for your child. Next, we’ll schedule a Shadow Day so your child can experience our one-to-one classrooms and the Homework Cafè®. Finally, we’ll build a customized class schedule and program with our Director of Student Development.
