Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

As a family, we feel very blessed and grateful to have become a part of the Our Lady of Grace family. The school is helmed by Father Jay and the Principal Miss Joyce Cluess, both extrodinary in their roles. I enrolled my two boys here in 6 and 8th grade. They love it and are excelling in all aspects. The advanced technology level, academics, extra-curriculars, teachers, student body and families are just some of the reasons why this gem of a school is so stellar. I am very confident my boys are succeeding on all levels. Most importantly, they are doing so with love and kindness as guiding principals.

Hi. This school was great for me until I started middle school. Even sixth grade was great. But once I got into 7th grade everything went downhill. I'll start with the new principal. Mrs. Cluess completely changed the environment, and not for the better. Quality teachers that I loved had left either on their own regard or were scared of being fired by Mrs. Cluess. So of course only a few good teachers were left. One MAJOR problem I had was the complete lack of male teachers. There are none and so a lot of the boys are outcast while the girls are played the favorites. The math department is weak. A lot of my classmates in high school for example had taken geometry already. I had barley learned algebra I. Just this year I learned that they finally had started teaching the STANDARDS. That's right, they were teaching us SUB-STANDARDS and never even told us! They also have a terrible grading system. They raised the percentage to get an A so they wouldn't have to raise the teaching standard and thus say they have a challenging curriculum. The only reason I stayed through middle school was all my friends were there. Otherwise, may I suggest St. Mel's just down Ventura.

This school used to be a great school and I give it four stars because of the great community feeling it used to have. However, ever since Joyce cluess became principal, that feeling has changed. I have been a part of the school for many years and you can tell the vibe has changed. The teachers used to be fun and carefree while doing their job with great enthusiasm and love for the students. Now, while they still have that love for their students, you can tell that she wears them down. She talks to them like a dictator unless she is in front of other parents. Many new parents think mrs.cluess is wonderful but that's because they have fallen for her fake facade. In my opinion, wait to come to this school until mrs. Cluess is gone.

Hello, I'm a graduate from OLG, and I have some complaints about the school. Alright, the teachers were helpful but I learned almost nothing! The academics are anything but challenging and when I got to high school, I was completely lost! Almost all of the other students had learned way more than I had in their middle school. I was especially hindered in the math department. The sociality in my class in 8th grade was also very poor. I was more or less exiled from the class and many rumors were started about me. Honestly, I wish I had chosen a different middle school. Also, at one point in 7th grade, they forced us to write good reviews on websites such as this because they were getting low ratings. We, as students, were forced to write reviews because former graduates, such as me, rated them down because of the poor treatment, socially and educationally, we received at this school. Please please please don't send your child there! From what I learned during my time in high school, other middle schools like Saint Mels and Saint Nicholas had better education!

There has never been a greater school. OLG is AMAZING!!! From day one when I walked into to look at the options for my two sons I was greeted with a warm feeling in which a child's education came first. As I met with the principal to grasp a better understanding of the school I realized all of the things my boys were missing out on at their other school. Not only is a hands on learning environment important but differentiated instruction, individualized instruction and common standards are key to a childs success. Just by taking a tour and learning about the school I could see that all this was being provided for all their students. I made the decision to send both my boys to OLG and it was the best decision ever. My younger son was struggling on learning how to read and in two weeks time he now has a love for reading, is pushing his sounds, looking at the pictures for clues and so much more. My older son is now being challeneged academically and is feeling a sense of accomplishment. All of the parents and staff at OLG are heart felt and put all their students first. This is a wonderful environment where a child can receive a successful education!

When i was shopping for a school for my children i was so worried that i was going to make the wrong choice. Then i went to the open house at OLG, they didnt really try to sell the school to us, the principal said we are a Catholic School and we will expect you to be active Catholics, our children are well prepare for high school and we will treat your kids as they were our own. I took a gamble and picked the school, now looking back i realized that OLG is so much more, from the first day parents and staff made us feel special and welcomed .From the principal to the last last aide, they all strive to make OLG a very safe place for our children, the principal is highly involved in everything. I really wanted to volunteer and i fit right in, the other parents and staff welcomed me with open arms, i was even able to bring my lil one with me. However this school is not for everyone if you dont like to attend church, or if you are one of those parents that doesnt like to be bothered by their kids and expect the school to teach and raise your children. This school is not for you.

This is a wonderful school where student outcome is based on teacher-parent collaboration. My child loves OLG due to the love and support given from the teachers and other school personnel. The school offers a very safe and clean environment to the students. They strive to make the school better. I am very impressed with the school - home communication. There are also many opportunities to become actively involved parents. My husband and I are very pleased with the academic program as well as the new technological advancements being put in place this upcoming school year by the new principal. Another highlight is the religious curriculum. Our Catholic faith is ever-growing in the eyes of my child. The priests welcome the children just about every morning and help make mass interesting for the students. Students participate in mass and enjoy going. I highly recommend Our Lady of Grace.

I respectfully disagree with the last few reviews. As a teacher at OLG, I possess a California Clear Teaching Credential and a Master of Education degree. Most of my colleagues are qualified teachers, the very few who are not are in credentialing programs. We care about our students, whether they are on student council or not. We meet with each other and with parents to discuss our concerns about our students and how to best meet the needs of those students because our students success is our primary goal. We could not do this without the backing and support of our pastor and principals. If my children were of school age, I would not hesitate to send them to Our Lady of Grace.

I agree with the last review. This school is not very good. The lack of qualified teachers is scarce. The have poor leadership coming from the parish. Don't waste your money on this school

This is not a very good school, but there is a good religion program. There is extreme favoritism and if you are not on the decathlon team or student council you will be constantly reminded of it and will lose out on many special privelidges. It is a satisfactory elementary school, but the academics are not good enough to justify staying for middle school. Also, does anyone else find it strange that there are seven five star reviews posted on June 14th?

I am currently a student at Our Lady of Grace and will be graduating this coming weekend. I have had many wonderful and enjoyable experiences during my time here. The teachers are wonderful they care for each student genuinely . Also getting to be with the same group of people for so many years allows you to truly get to know each other and not only grow as friends but as family.

So I'm am graduating this weekend. I have been at this school for nine years. Our Lady of Grace really lets you build relationships with friends that will last forever. This school REALLY needs a new wifi system and new computers. But otherwise the teachers really know how to teach the students and they really try to help them succeed.

Our Lady of Grace is an awesome school and I will miss it so much! I am an eighth grader of this school and I am going to graduate in four days. I came to this school in third grade and everyone accepted me like I have been there since when I wasin Kindergarten. This school has so many fun activities! Having fairs, game days, Hawaiian days, pep rallies, winter wonderland, and much much more! This school kept me active by participating in sports. There is also student council. This school has a science lab, musical instruments, drama program, health program, and many other fun things to do. The teachers are amazing, helpful, fun, and caring. This school is a big ball of fun and I will never forget it. Although I am leaving, this school will always be close to my heart.

I don't care what other people say. I think this school is amazing and I'd recommend it to other people. The teachers are really nice, funny, and they know how to connect with the students. The school overall is a great environment for children and you are very well educated. It taught me what I needed to know to prepare for high school and I don't regret coming here.

I am the former principal at Our Lady of Grace School. This school has an outstanding faculty and staff; the best that I have ever had the pleasure of working with. The parents care about all aspects of the learning and community at this school. Anyone who joins this community will be thrilled with the academics that their children would receive. God bless the children.

I am an alumni and currently work at this school. Our Lady of Grace has their accreditation and has had it for decades. Our teachers are hard working and try everything to make sure every child is learning and enjoying the curriculum. We provide many extra curricular activities for children before and after school including chorus, sports, cheerleading, violin class, chess class, and robotics. We also have an after school homework room for those students needing peace and quiet after school to get their homework done. Our teachers are involved with other activities throughout the school. They do not just "show up, teach and leave". Many are coaches for decathlon, cheerleading, student council, or sports. A few have even offered FREE after school tutoring just to ensure that all students can succeed if they want to. This school truly cares about their students and their success.

I love OLG and have been associated with the school for many years. The teachers know their subjects and are concerned about the students. Many families have been associated with the school for generations which adds to caring, concerned and loving atmosphere. OLG stresses building a person of character and knowledge.

Superb! This school is terrific! We are so happy with our decision to take our child out of public school and enroll in Lady Of Grace! What a fabulous group of teachers, parents and local community. We are proud that our child is learning how to create lasting relationships, be respectful, complete assignments and is on track to create a work ethic that will be rewarded in the future. The kind, loving environment woven with accountability, rules and yes, uniforms - is inspiring. Way to go - will update again at the end of the 1st semester.

If your child is either gifted or needs a little extra help in any subject, they are not qualified and do not WANT to have your child be a part of their community. We were told by the PRINCIPAL that maybe our child would be better elsewhere. We moved him up a grade because the grade he was in, was too easy. He knew how to read, write, do simple math, count to the thousands and recognize where he lives on a map... they took all year to learn the alphabet. We moved him up. That teacher couldn't have made it clearer that she was put out having to have a new student half way through the year, and she started every sentence about our child with "doesn't and can't"...very negative and our child could tell she didn't want him there. He told us that without us asking about it. I have never seen a school with so many teachers who don't believe in their students. If your child is average and you as parents don't ask too many questions or if you are happy to just give your money but not expect a high return...this is a fine school. This year has been a waste of his time and our money.

OLG is a great school for those families seeking a loving, caring and spiritually connected environment. The teachers are good and fair. Some teachers do show preferential treatment to certain students. The Athletic Director is awesome; she really loves what she does and it shows. The children are great; very kind and loving. I never noticed kids fighting, arguing or being unkind. Academics were average. I did not feel that my child was truly challenged at OLG. The classroom sizes are large, but spiritually OLG is wonderful. The Principal is fair but firm, which I think is important. Some parents have complained about payment policy, but I can tell you from experience OLG is very understanding of "life changes". However it is important for the students and faculty that tuition is paid in a timely manner. It is not a system that should be taken for granted.

OLG is a good school for what it is, an inexpensive alternative to public and/or other Catholic schools in the area. Many of the teachers need to retire but the few that are new are very good. Academically the school is average but it is trying to improve. The 8th grade still needs a lot of work in order to properly prepare their graduates for high school. Parent involvement is high because it is mandatory and the 10% that take on most of the leadership roles do a great job. The new principal is not at all friendly or a strong leader however she was able to make some necessary financial changes to the school in attempt to improve its quality. Unfortunately, in doing so, much of its caring charm of the past has now been lost. As with most schools, this school is not for every child.

I love the school and teachers. The school has a great pre-kindergarten program with caring teachers. The subsequent teachers are also great. There is no a high turn over rate for teachers. The academics in the school are good. The school has a great art and music program. This is a tight and welcoming community. The principal has made some positive changes. This year they have made changes to the Middle School program which helps the students better prepare for High School. My girls love the school and love their teachers.

We have been at OLG for 9 years and am very glad that I chose this school for my 2 kids. The new principal has made some changes to the school that were very much needed. They have been doing very well in competing against other schools in both academics and sports. Their music and arts programs are fantastic as well. Highly recommend it.

2 of my kids have attended & graduated OLG, another will grad in 2 yrs. The teachers, staff and parish as a whole are one of the best in this part of the LA/SFV areas. I agree w/another here though that the 7-8 grade pgm is light in study and social skills qualities, but most any well adjusted student will do well here.

I have been involved with Our Lady of Grace for many years. I personally know most all of the teachers and I have never seen such a caring group of individuals. They each take a personal stake in each of their students. I have noticed that the faculty promotes personal responsibility in each child as well as kindness and compassion toward others. I would recommend this school to anyone interested in a well-rounded education for their child.

The school is ok, not great. The principal is new and so far we haven't seen much warmth or connection from her. She still feels like she belongs at a public school with her cold and stoic approach to being at Olg. She seems to focus mostly on money and detention. We have never had detentions for our kids and now we have it all the time. We're not very happy with Olg and will probably change schoos because of this principal.

Both of my children attending this school for numerous years. It is not a bad school for children that are right down the middle of the road for education. If your child is extremely bright and advanced they do not have the ability to challenge them as they can only go along with the cirriculum set for the entire class. Also, if your child struggles they won't deal with any individual needs of the child. They would rather have them attend another school. My one child that excelled did not get challenges he needed. He was bored and didn't learn much. Now in high school and is challenged he is doing extremely well in his regular classes and Honors. He currently has a 4.143 GPA which has to do a lot with his current teachers, not those at OLG.

My two children are currently attending LoG. The eldest, her fourth year, my son his first. Overall I would rate this school as very good. Academically speaking one is only as good as the Teacher. The Teachers have been excellent so far ergo sum my kids are excelling. I don't always agree with the curriculum or the teachings but the alternative is mediocre at best. Most importantly there are rules which must be followed and enforced if not. My only gripe with the school is the amount of time and money that they demand of the Parents. Sometimes too much is too much. We plan on attending this school until the start of High School.

Academically, this school is good. Art program is incredible, with incredible teacher. Music is so-so, with no hands on instruments. There is an after school program for additional fee for Piano. Piano teacher is terrific. Sports are available for upper grades 5-8 and swimming for all. Level of parent involvement is high, 40hours of volunteer service mandatory. Areas that need improving: Foreign Language (only Spanish after school for fee), no Gymnasium, no Science Lab.
