Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Our daughters have been enrolled in this school since preschool and will be also be attending middle school at WLS next year. This school has been a very good experience for us. The student/teacher ratio is very low, so the children are getting a a great deal of one on one attention. Every year we are happily surprised our new teacher is as good, if not better, than the year prior. Many of the teachers have been there a very long time, in fact many attended WLS themselves. I find this to be a tell-tale sign of a cohesive school. As a parent volunteer, I enjoy being able to be part of their great art program. I am able to become acquainted with my daughter's peers and bond with the other parents. We have developed many great relationships with the classmate's parents. If I had to find a negative aspect of the school, I would say I wish the playground was larger, but hey, we live in L.A.

I graduated from WLS in '95 and it definitely set me up for success in attending high school. I went to Palos Verdes Peninsula High School and had no problem picking up right where I left off. I went on to attend and graduate from West Point so if you have any worries as to the quality of the education don't. Its top notch.

I am thankful we chose to send our children to WLCS because overall they have turned out to be much more conscientious than their public school neighbors. If you are choosing for academics, you may be at the wrong school. I do not think the cost of tuition was worth the academic value. Teachers have been there forever and are tired and burnt out. I believe a motivated child could get just as good of an education at local public schools, as long as they do not bow to peer pressure. If you are choosing to raise an overall wholesome child, this is a great environment. Good grades are cool, smoking and drugs are not. Parent Involvement is mandatory, which causes disgruntled involvement. They should reward families with tuition brakes, not penalize for missed hours.

WLMS is a wonderful school, we're really glad that we chose to send our daughter here instead of Orville Wright MS. Teachers and Principal Lillie are great instructors and role models for the kids. Thanks WLMS!!

The elementary school is wonderful. The teachers are caring and the principal is amazing. The two years my daughter has been at the middle school though have been disappointing. We love the principal but she cannot do anything about the teachers that should have retired many moons ago!

There are certain aspects of WLS and WLMS that we love, but there are other aspects that we do not. On the positive side, the elementary school Principal is dedicated, nurturing, informed, and fair. Moreover, we have found her to be totally accessible and a real advocate for the students. Similarly, the middle school Principal is nurturing and enthusiastic and loved by all of her students, Both Principals are totally dedicated to enriching the lives of their students through the teaching of solid academics and good values. Most of our complaints lie with the Middle School. The children are responsible for mastering way too many subjects (eleven) at one time. Certain subjects could be offered on a rotational basis to improve the students' workload. Notwithstanding, the middle school teachers are skilled and nurturing, save one whose continued retention by the school is perplexing.

The elementary school is a very nurturing environment and the kids become very close after their K-8 years. The parents and children are on the most very wholesome, and many students say they were completely sheltered from drugs until they left for high school, HOWEVER, the middle school is not for everyone. If you have a high achieving student, the middle school is is a great preparation for high school. An average or struggling student in middle school is usually stressed and overwhelmed. Support in the middle school is for the teachers, not the students.

This school can get your child well educated, responsible, and loving towards the Christian life. I loved this school and its activities! I wish I could go back. I know much about WLS because my mother went here from Pre-K to 8th grade. She was as happy asi was.

We are extremely happy with the education our child is getting at Westchester Lutheran. WLS has been educating children for over 60 years and they have a tough, solid curriculum. The staff is outstanding! The principal is a warm and experienced leader. It gives you great confidence your child is in good hands; emotionally, socially and academically.

WLS is a wonderful environment for children. Not only do the teachers, staff and principal work tirelessly at educating our children, they instill in them the importance of respect, kindness and caring for their peers. The academics at WLS are rigorous and challenging, leaving the kids well prepared for highly demanding private high schools. But equally as important, thoughtful, compassionate people are developed.

We are very pleased with the school. The curriculum is rough and demands are high. Yet, the children are in a very caring and nurturing environment. The parents help one another and it's a very positive place.

Outstanding value for the quality of education. The school holds high expectations for academic performance and behavior from its students which the parents support. I would never go back to public school in LA after making the change to WLS. The WLS families value education and civility.

We have been happy with the academics of the school, the after school programs, discipline etc. However, the school will be undergoing major construction will is bound to be a distraction if not a safety issue. Also, the school is being held to mandatory carpooling quotas, which may result in a reduction of the school population if not adhered to. In short, I'm happy with the school but these are big issues that I'm not comfortable with.

My child attended Westchester Lutheran for middle school. It had a very challenging curriculum & a great deal of homework. Parent participation is a must. Teachers are committed and there is very little teacher turnover, a real plus. The principal of the Middle School is also the art teacher, and also has children at the school. Teachers are accessible, and students demonstrate respect for eachother and faculty. A very small, family-like environment exists - as most of the students began in pre-school and elementary. This did serve to alienate, at times, students and parents of students that had not been a part of the 'school family' for as long a period. Discipline problems among students was minimal. Individuality and participation in non-academic activities was encouraged and supported. Only wish was that the school offered a greater range of ethnic diversity. Building plan underway at elementary school campus.

Westchester Lutheran is a good school in the middle of others that perform very poorly. The approach to education is still very traditional in that there is no real opportunity for creative, 'thinking outside the box' learning. Excellent for a general, solid, buildable educaitonal experience. Music and art are available; however, sports are somewhat limited. Parents are very involved. Great school overall.

The grade school is wonderful, however the middle school does not have the teacher support (meaning, teachers who go over and above to help a child succeed.) that i would have expected of a parochial school. Improvement has been made for the class of 2005.

The K-5 program is pretty good at WLS; they provide a good educational foundation. Many of the K-5 teachers offer after school help for kids who need it. The middle school lacks leadership. The principal is more interested in being a friend to the teachers than a leader. The teachers exhibit few innovative ideas. Many of the teachers assign the same projects and extra credit to the same kids year after year. Most of the teachers do not offer extra help before/after school. A large percentage of the middle school students require private math tutoring and still struggle to pass the math class.

My two children have both been through WLS and the school is fabulous. The teachers are caring and challenging and they have made friends they will have for a lifetime. A very family and community-oriented school.

Both our daughters attended Westchester Lutheran Schools. They are now successful adults, thanks to the well-rounded Christian education they received here.
