good elementary and middle school in los angeles county (torrance/redondo beach area)

Our family is contemplating on moving to L.A. area in July of this year. I have 3 boys (9yr old in 4th grade now, 6yr old in 1st grade and a 2yr old).

We live in the Bay area and would very much prefer to live close to the coast (maybe 5-mins away would be great). So I was thinking maybe down south is the best - maybe Torrance/Redondo Beach area.

Are there good public school (elementary and middle) in that area? could you please recommend some? My eldest is attending a magnet school and is in the GATE program as well. Im also interested in finding out more information about that.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm kinda lost - I don't know where to look or how to begin.

Thanks a lot!

I was wondering what you found out. Did you end up moving? We now are considering the same move.

This post is old but if anyone else needs the same advice...I would recommend West Torrance. Towers and Victor elementary, Bert Lynn and Jefferson middle schools, and West High are really good with high API scores. I speak from personal experience. South Torrance is also very good.

I have good friends whose children went to Beryl Heights elementary, Parras middle school and Redondo Union HIgh as well as Adams middle school and Redondo Union High. These schools are good too.

Just my 2 cents.

The South Bay (i.e. Torrance, Redondo Beach, El Segundo, Manhattan Beach, Palos Verdes) has quite a few solid schools. Culver City, Santa Monica are good as well.
