At Yavneh, teachers care about your whole child and encourage their growth academically, socially, and emotionally. The school is an extended family for us.
My son is getting the individual attention he needs to really do well. And he is loving it. He now likes math, reading, does fun science experiments, and art. He is always getting hands on instruction. The close knit community is an added bonus. All the after school options make it easy.
Yavneh has an excellent teaching staff, especially in the middle school. Our son was well prepared for his next school, much to the credit of the individual attention he received and rigorous academic expectations in math and English.
Yavneh Day School focuses on the entire person: intellectual, social, emotional, and spiritual/religious. I have seen my son develop into a good person who is conscientious, curious and interested in learning, and creative. They have a music and art program incorporated into the curriculum. We are very satisified with Yavneh!
Yavneh Day School is the third school I've been at in the past seven years. This has been the warmest community I have seen yet with great all school programs like Keshet of Kavod (Rainbow of Respect) and our Reading/Writing Initiative. We have an amazing staff who truly work together as a team. I can't imagine my life without Yavneh!
There is more than meets the eye at Yavneh Day School. Every day is packed with a love of teaching by the faculty, and for the students, a love for learning emerges. The school boasts an award winning elementary and middle school that is designed to prepare students for what awaits them in high school, college and beyond. Art and music, sports and science, it all comes together under one roof along with an infusion of Jewish life and learning. As a bonus to the standard general education and Jewish curriculum, Yavneh also offer its students Social Justice, lead by an educator who uses a variety of teaching techniques to show our children how to give back to their community by being aware of what else is out there, rather than living in a day school bubble. The Social Justice class is a sparkling jewel in the Yavneh crown.
It was a very hard decision choosing to send my children to an independent Jewish school. We aren't very observant, but the Jewish customs and values are important to my family. And we have a great public school in our neighborhood, witthin walking distance. But we decided that we wanted our kids to have the close, personal attention that they get at Yavneh. The curriculum is amazing, always advancing and growing. Problems with learning or behavior is dealt with well. And looking at the 8th grade class every year reminds me of the great confidence and leadership that results. These kids are amazing and I hope mine turn out the same way!
I love that my children are learning how to be a caring, responsible people while also getting the highest level of academics and Jewish education. The school finds interesting ways to teach kids (the teachers are great!) and don't just lecture and test.
The thing I love the most about Yavneh is that each of the teachers treats my kids as if they were their own. I never feel as though the teachers are out of reach - they are not only just a phone call or email away, but teachers often initiate conversations with the parents when they run into them on campus. I always know how my kids are doing, academically, socially and emotionally. If we have an issue, there is always a creative solution.
Yavneh Day School has its negatives and positives, but the positives certainly outweigh the negatives. Like most schools, Yavneh could benefit from investing more in technology. Yavneh has a family atmosphere. Students become caring leaders that are life long learners by watching, doing together, and independent hands on learning. Teachers are creative, inspirational, caring, curious problem solvers that lead by example. Yavneh also offers many offsite learning experiences (field trips). In the past students have gone to Yosemite, Washington and New York, Marin Headlands, science fairs, Gold Rush, Space Museum, Monterey Bay Aquarium, and so many others. Teachers participate in professional development, and many have gone to Israel for a once in a lifetime learning experience.
I highly recommend Yavneh Day School to anyone who is looking to give their child an advantage in their education. My child is thriving their, and she looks forward to every day. She is learning math and reading/writing at a level beyond her counterparts at our public school. And she is becoming fluent in Hebrew. And the art program is incredible. The teachers and staff are all great. I'm no longer worried about which high school to send her to because she has the backing that will help her do well wherever she goes.
My Son has been at Yavneh for almost two years and his brother will be starting kindergarten next year. I love this school, but more importantly, my Son is so happy to go every day. The kids have so much respect for one another, which they learn by example from the wonderful teachers and staff. The teachers are very passionate about what they do and how they teach, which gives the students an excitement for learning. In addition to a great general education, Yavneh has an excellent art and music program. I would never have known that my Son had a talent for art if it wasn't for the influence of the teachers at this school. My Son has ADHD and the school has been on top of his issues from the start. He has a planner, so he can keep track of his assignments and the teachers have been very patient with his need for more individualized attention. If you are interested in an exceptional Jewish day school with a caring and inclusive community, you should visit Yavneh and learn more about this special school.
my school is great. my school is a jewish school the kids learn hebrew and judica.
My daughter's experience have been awesome here at Yavneh. It's her second year, and when I ask her who her favorite teacher is, she seriously said, "All of them!" The teachers here are very qualified and really care that each student maximizes their potential. That's true not just for those that need a bit more help, but for whatever level they are learning at they are always challenged in a fun, caring way. This applies to the basics like English, math and science, to the more specialized Hebrew, Jewish studies, art, music and physical education, and more diverse studies as they get older. As an example, when my 1st grader comes home talking about artists that I had heard of, but she knows all about, it's pretty amazing. I grew up going to Jewish day schools, but I learned none of that. The other great thing is how much time and effort daily goes into teaching values and life skills so at the end we have children that are wonderful people. Here at Yavneh, parents, students and staff form part of a community. It doesn't mean we all have to agree, Jewish schools definitely value questioning! but we all know we're trying to do our best for our children and the school is, too.
We have been so happy at Yavneh! Teachers are dedicated and engaged, holding students to high standards at the same time respecting the individual child. Students are excited to be at school and know each other across grades. Not only are the academics superior, the extra events, field trips and journeys make the school special. Students enjoy concerts, speakers and celebrate Jewish holidays together, making each day exciting. The best part is the warmth and enthusiasm families share for the school. The school engages each student, as well as creates opportunities for families to get to know each other and spend time together. We appreciate the approach the school takes with each student, valuing and engaging them at their level. We look forward to many more years at Yavneh!
Yavneh is an amazing school, where each child learns their potential to be a real leader in our society. Within this small environment, every child has the chance to shine. Cultural values of respect and community are not just posted on the walls....they are taught through daily curriculum and weekly experiences, with students empowered to create these roles themselves. As a result, students are HAPPY here and kind to each other. Needless to say, academics are a strong point of Yavneh's innovative curriculum with Singapore Math, Full Option Science System (FOSS), Readers and Writers Workshop, and an integrated approach with Israeli history, Jewish studies and social justice. Parents are very welcoming and inclusive, regardless of religious affiliation. I feel fortunate that Yavneh opens its doors wide and welcomes families, regardless of financial need. We can only hope that all children are afforded the same opportunity and learn the gift of giving in and outside the classroom walls.
The teacher in class was excellent, the others, no- regular. Music they sing along; they do not have music education. PE is good...They spend too much time "fundraising" to the exhaustion and give plenty of scholarships-Great, no... Problem is that giving away so many scholarships or partial ones, it not downgrades the level of the school as a result of lack of additional financial resources,- for a school that is that expensive- it disappoints. Impression we had is that some scholarships are given not to lose the client, rather than as a result of people in need. Kids went there in 2009. parents are super nice and united. Parents help each other. Also Office manager staff is very nice. The accountant is very, very nice, so is the security staff.
Hidden Gem!!!! We were really turned off when exploring our local public school options because of the emphasis on test scores, the cutting of art and music programs, and the class sizes of 30. That's ultimately why we chose to look at private schools. We were looking for a strong, engaging academic program where our kids would be challenged and noticed, and Yavneh stood out in this regard. The emphasis is on "real" learning -- critical thinking, problem solving, writing, inquiry, leadership, creative expression, and social-emotional intelligence. Classes are small, and teachers are warm, dedicated and creative. They differentiate work based on each student's level. We love the Singapore math curriculum with two teachers teaching math in each lower school class. Art, music, and PE every week. We're not affiliated with a synagogue, and are not particularly observant Jews and we really feel comfortable here. Bottom line: My husband and I feel really lucky that our kids are having such a rich educational experience, and are looking forward to being part of the middle school when it comes time.
My kids cried when they had to miss a day of school last week. They love their teachers, and they feel completely engaged in the learning process. The academics have really matured over the past few years to an impressive level, with a dynamic middle school. And the feeling of support and caring is incredible. The kids graduate with a maturity and confidence unusual in their age group.
Yavneh is a small school with a family atmosphere. Ask any child about any other child in any grade, and they will know one another. Academics are stronger than people realize or would think from a Jewish Day School. But the school is in Silicon Valley, and the kids coming out of Yavneh have to compete with kids coming out of the best public schools -- and they do so quite well. Last year, 66% of Yavneh children scored at 95% or higher in at least one area of the ERB.
