I have a 8th grade and a 4th grader at Neil Hafley. I love this school. Any problems I have they are right on top of it. The teachers have always responded to me in a timely manner. The ladies in the office are always more then helpful. Especially Mrs. Mattos in the front. She always welcomes me when I walk threw the door. And she seems to remember every ones kids. Which is very reassuring. The only thing I wish this school would do is make the student to teacher ratio smaller. They have way to many combo classes

I have 2 children who graduated from Neil Hafley and 1 that is still is still going. I love the school, the teachers are awesome and staff/principal are amazing. My kids have been comfortable and successful at this school. I have volunteered for over 5 years. The opportunities are there and welcome. My kids are welcome there even as high schoolers for any help with their studies by former teacher. Ladies in office are awesome as well. Never had an issue at Neil Hafley. They are definitely always looking for needed improvement. Fabulous school!!!!!

Mean kids and faculty that does not acknowledge. Bullying is not addressed like it should be. No wonder there is an epidemic in American schools. Neil Hafley is one of the reasons.

My son went to this school and was in the SDC class, the teacher was ok the Vice principle is Horrible she is rude she doesn't return calls she talked to my kid like she was family she went overboard... one of the ladies in the front with the blonde hair is rude and has to much attitude, this school was ok but those two people need to be replaced!!!

My children transferred to and began the '05/'06 school year at Neil Hafley - and I am extremely pleased with all aspects of the school! I am very impressed by the amount of parent/teacher communication! My daughter was blessed to have such an amazing teacher as Mrs. Abernathy last year! Mrs. Abernathy is truly a gift of an everlasting and wonderful impression to our children. My son was equally fortunate to have Mr. Oliveria as his teacher. Mr. O is able to mix structure with a sense of relaxed atmosphere. I was extremely pleased with his 'personal attentiveness to each child as an individual' as well as his 'disciplined and stern expectations of the kids'. I think that Neil Hafley is an all around great school!

Neil Hafley has a fantastic Principal who cares about the children. The teachers and staff are wonderful and put the time into teaching the children not only academically but by showing how much they care. They make the kids want to learn and have a respect for learning.

My son is just starting his 3rd year at Neil Hafley. We have found the school to be great, the classroom sizes are small and the school has a large number of parent volunteers. The Principals (we are on our second one) have been excellant. Each one has showed interest in the students, via class visits, interaction on the play ground, etc. I did have a problem with the ex-vice principal, didn't have people skills, and haven't had a chance to meet the new one. My son's teacher have gone above their duties in extra tutoring, etc. They have the best school fundraiser, once a year walk-jog-athon. No selling! Safety of the students has always been first here. Parent involvement is highly encourged and we all watch out for each others children. My son has blossomed here. Thank you to all the staff!

This school has been one disappointment after another. Quality of academic programs low. Small school, but not enought programs to cater to levels of learning. Gate programs are very unorganized and do not offer excellerated learning programs for above average students. My son was bored out of his mind at this school and was not challenged. When we asked the staff to do this, we were pacified then ignored. Sports programs have been cut, no band and very few extracurricular activities available. Parent involvement is good, however they do not welcome new parents with open arms, they consider what they are doing is ample and don't want outside help. Principal staff is less than desirable. They do not treat all children equal as far as I can see. My second child will NEVER attend this school.

AS being a former student of this school, the principal is a great guy. The yard duty supervisors on other hand were a major disappointment. I believe they disciplined the wrong children for the wrong thing. I noticed alot of kids getting in trouble for the wrong reasons and that bothered me. I would try to say something but, nobody listened to me.

I feel if the yard duty people would stick to their own criteria of what they were actually hired to do, it would make a difference with the attitudes of most parents. How do the yard duty people know what actually effects the classroom when they are not in the classroom. The communication between the Principal and Secretary seems to be on the same level, but the Vice Principal doesn't seem to communicate with them very well. The new Principal and Secretary are an asset to the school, but the Vice Principal could stand improvement with communication and people skills.

About the tests


In 2012-2013 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.
