this school ti perfect for me. i am a wired kid and this scool is perfect. i just started my first year.
As far as our school goes, this is a wonderful school. We have won numerous awards over the years and have worked very hard to create a culture of learning on this campus. It is a charter school that is publicly funded and a part of the school district, so all students are welcome and there is no tuition. It is a school based around the fine and performing arts, but also offers top of the line academics as evidenced by our State test scores, and a community like feeling. Every year is different at the Charter Academy as we foster a culture of student involvement and encourage students to be the change they wish to see in the World. -Larry Yocum, World History, U.S. History, Civics, and Economics teacher.
My daughter entetred MCAA as a bright, but beated down kid. She is musically talented, and a gifted writer. All she got from her other school expereinces is scorn and abuse. She is loved at home but was bullied at every school she went to. She didn't fit in, until she went to MCAA. It was a life changing experience for her. She was finally accepted by her peers, and appreciated for her many talents. She blossomed into an honor student. She had major roles in school plays, and lead out in both band and choir. She learned academically from a concerned staff. She blossomed physically by learning marshal arts, and dance. Her experiences at MCAA have left me hoping I can get my other younger children admitted there. It is a great school with a waiting list hundreds long. They encourage heavy parent involvment, which adds to the success of the program.
I have brought my 2 children from out of district to attend Marysville Charter Academy for the Arts because of the superior atmosphere at the school. My students feel safe there and enjoy being at the school. I sent them to MCAA for both the arts and the high quality of academics the school is known for. I have not been disappointed.
I am about to enter 8th grade and I will say a few things about MCAA. It has been great for the most part--I have learned loads and been given many, many opportunities that will allow me to go to nearby community colleges in 9th grade; and I have truly discovered myself here. It is the best school for hundreds of miles. With that said, there are a few issues here. One of these is with staff--administration does let certain teachers get by with preaching religious or political views that do NOT relate to the state standards, which can make certain students feel uncomfortable. One other thing is that behavioral issues from students are slow to be dealt with, but other than that, this school is wonderful. MCAA has changed me for the better and taught me tons...please, if you're considering this school, give it a try.
This is one of the best schools around in my opinion. I love this school so much. It is a great place for any kid who enjoys any of the arts. This is my second year and mcaa is one of the most supportive schools of their students.
this is a fantastic school its great for people who are into the arts we are a great group of kids and we always like to meet new people
This school is a fantastic opportunity for students (grade 7-12) to express their creative abilities as well as experience a positive and encouraging, college prep atmosphere for not only the students and staff, but the parents as well. The students and Teachers at MCAA get along great and as a result, it s no wonder why that school has won so many awards! Both academically and artistically!! As an alumni student of MCAA, I highly recommend this school to anyone who has a passion for the arts as well as a firm focus in academic studies! -Lucas Ledbetter
I have been going to this school since I was in 7th grade and that was 5 years ago. The school, the students, and the parents are literally a community and we all know what's going on at the same time. This school is amazing and I would recommend it to everyone.
Iam a parent of an Alumni and a current student I feel this school focus on the students strenths and focuss on them therefore giving them confidence in thier abilities. This school recently won a bronze medal status in the U.S. News and World report of Best High Schools in the United States. My daughters are getting a well rounded education here. Very supportive staff and small class sizes. There are many electives to choose from.
We beleive the rating of 7 of 10 is lower than is fair and does not reflect the actual quality of education offered at Marysville Charter Academy for the Arts. We do not make this observation subjectively or because our child is a student there. Both my wife and I have professional degrees and in earning our education we acquired a great deal of consumer experince in education. The calsses here are small, the student body and the faculty is highly motivated and committed to achieving a better educational experience. Scores from standardized tests alone would place this school at the apex of secondary schools in California, however, that does not reflect the commitment to the Arts here. This is an extraordianry school and the grades should be much higher by great schools.
I'm a student at marysville school of the arts and its so awsome the teachers pay attention to our needs.I love this school
Our daughter is a recent graduate of the Marysville Charter Academy for the Arts. There is no other school like it in the Yuba-Sutter area. It is a public school that operates under a charter and accepts students from any county. I don't know what my daughter would have done had it not been for the Charter Academy. At the Academy she flourished as an actress and a singer; she learned to produce plays. She was an A student. She never got in trouble. She had great friends (some with funny hair), all of whom are very bright and talented. We have witnessed many kids with low self-esteem blossom at this school. The school board got it right when it agreed to a school operated under this model.
This is in responce to the recent email I received on my schools [diversity] well its excilent because if you think of the kids that attend this school, theres actors, singers, artists, self defence, writers, musicians and dancers. So with all of these kids in one place you have to know that the school is very diverse.
Actually, I'm not a parent but a former student at MCAA, posting in place of my parents, each of who agree with me that MCAA is a great school. I was part of the very first graduating class in 2001. Before I went to MCAA I was doing poorly in school, due to boredom and lack of challenges. I was shy and reserved, the kind of person who always sat in the back of class deflecting teacher attention, something that was easy to do in those classes of 30 or more. Yet after one year at MCAA, I graduated with high honors on the golden state examination in reading and literature, salutatorian with more A's than any other grade, a twenty page english final that I was extremely proud of, and with a new confidence in myself. I was no longer the shyest girl in school. In fact, I now make it a point in college to sit at the front of my classes and participate. MCAA did a lot for me. Maybe it can do a lot for your kids too.
If it wasnt for this school... We would have a lot of students unhappy... and overall they wouldnt learn as much as a regular school! Thank you MCAA!
