Nativity has been a wonderful school for us. Our son has struggled with reading and Nativity was quick to act with their wonderful resource program. Since entering the program his reading has dramatically improved. The discipline is strict however very fair. The families are loving, caring, and diverse. It is a great community that pulls together especially with their Christmas Tree lot and annual carnival. They also have a wonderful men's club which helps with just about everything the school needs. Also, all teachers have master degrees and the school has an incredible focus on technology. We are very happy at this school.
Nativity School has been great for us for the past 6 years. Three of our children are there. We started in First Grade at Nativity, our kids were welcomed by the other kids, the teacher, and the community. What makes this school unique besides the excellent academic level, is the community of parents and families and the caring environment the faculty and staff demonstrate everyday with our children.
We are extremely happy with our experience at Nativity School. The staff is excellent and the teachers are top notch. While many schools are cutting programs, Nativity continues to offer a complete well rounded educational platform (art, spanish, music, sports, etc). The teachers love and care for the children. They are firm yet fair with enforcing the rules. If you are looking for a loving, caring, family oriented school that respects the students and encourages the parents to be involved and part of their childs education than Nativity School would be a great fit for you. It takes a community to raise kids and thats exactly what Nativity is...a community!
I'm shocked to read that someone has had a bullying experience at Nativity. I have two children who attend this school grades 1 and 4 and I can tell you that from K on they have been taught by the staff that bullying is never ok. As a matter of fact we joke at home that calling someone a bully at Nativity is about the worst thing you can call someone. This week was report card week and each child had the opportunity to sit with the principal and discuss their report cards. My children feel engaged, loved and protected by their teachers and the staff of Nativity. I'm so thankful to be a part of this wonderful community. I
Excellent school, highly recommended. My daughter is now in 4th grade and we are extremely happy we made this choice (BTW, it was my wife's choice, I was not sure but I am now convinced she made the right pick, as usual). Great group of parents and family too. It is easy to fit in.
We have two children at Nativity and have such an amazing experience. The staff is warm, friendly, and most of all caring towards all the students. I have had the opportunity to volunteer at the school and see first hand what a great well rounded education my children are getting. They are learning wonderful values, gaining life long friendships and are so happy. This is an amazing community and our family feels blessed everyday to be party of it.
This is our 4th year at Nativity School and we couldn't be happier. It is a very loving and family oriented environment and I know when I am not there, the other parents and teachers are looking out for our childrens best interests. The kindergarten teachers are absolutely amazing, and so far, it has carried on to each grade. There are 3 other Catholic schools near us, but once we toured Nativity, we know this is where we wanted to be and it was worth the extra drive. Our children are so happy and are thriving academically.
Nativity has been a blessing for our family. We have a first and third grader at Nativity school after attending a neighboring school and a brief public school experience. Nativity by far has been the best choice for our family. They are academically sound and have the latest technology. The environment is nurturing, cohesive and well organized . The principal and staff are amazing and foster an environment of open communication. The principal sits down with every child in her school and reviews their report cards with them. She is present in every classroom and is a great resource to her teachers. The students are taught how to be good friends and responsible citizens. We have several students who have transfered into the school after negative social experiences at neighboring schools and after my families positive experience with Nativity I can understand why. Nativity is a great school academically and socially and we feel blessed to have this experience for our children.
Our family is blessed to have found Nativity School and the Nativity parish and community. I am astounded by the love and commitment of the faculty and parents involved with this school. I have no worries for my two boys for the next 8 years. I encourage all young parents who need a great place for your children to learn and grow up in the Catholic community to come and visit Nativity School.
The reason I am posting this review is that someone gave one star in an earlier review of this school. If my daughter went to Stanford or Harvard and someone gave one star to those schools - I would not feel a need to react and try to give my view. My daughter enjoyed going to Nativity from K to 3rd grade. Everything from the very beginning was enjoyable experience for her and for us the parents. The teachers were fantastic, the other parents are very involved in school activities and volunteer beyond expected duties. We have developed friendships with many families. Whatever frustration made the person who gave one star to this school - it is an exception. And it probably looked as horrible that it had to grade the school so harshly in all categories. But if we try to give an objective grade based on academic performance, behavior, quality of teaching, campus activities - I would give it five stars in all categories.
I love that my child is at Nativity. He comes home happy and wakes up ready to take on another day. He loves religion and I feel blessed knowing my child is excited about his learning enviroment. I like knowing that I can go to the teacher and my child's needs (as well as my concerns) will ALL be met without any criticism. The Principal is such a wonderful asset to the school and will go out of her way to show you that she cares. The parent involvement.... who wouldn't want to be part of their children's success. I work full time and a single mom, but I still manage to make time to show my child that his best interest is always my best interest.
The kindergarten teacher's are great at this school. There is a lot of opportunities for parent's to volunteer. Once your child graduates from kindergarten that is where the bullying and all the put down starts from the teachers and their aids. The teachers do not provide a safe loving environment, but will make your child feel most of the time like they are nothing. The teachers clearly are overworked and extremely frustrated with the class size and that is the reason they take out their frustrations on the children. Parents who do volunteer there long enough will see how the teachers interact with the students. My suggestion is, if you are so unhappy, instead of taking things out on a child, pursue a different career.
Nativity is a very family-friendly school. There are a lot of parent participation opportunities in Kindergarten, and the Kindergarten teacher is absolutely terrific. She deals patiently and calmly with all of the kids. After Kindergarten, classroom participation for parents is more limited, but parents can volunteer for Art class and for lunch duty and bring younger siblings if necessary. Lunch duty is a great way to see how your kids are socializing with their peers. The kids get comfortable with their parents being around their friends, and you'll see even the older students giving their parents hugs without any embarrassment. Mass is once a month & parents are welcome to attend. Drawbacks are homework in Kindergarten (beyond the "read a book every night" assignment that most schools have), and certain other grades having much more than the recommended 10 minutes per night per grade level. But it varies greatly by teacher. No homework on weekends thankfully. Also, the class sizes are large--28-35 kids. The lower grades have aides, but not the upper ones. The campus is nice. Both blacktop and grass are used for recess, and K-2 have jungle gyms. Lots of sports.
Nativity is a fantastic school. Our children have attended for the last 4 years but we have been part of the community for much longer. The teachers are excellent, caring, dedicated, and most are highly qualified with an MA and beyond. They offer some very special classes like Spanish, music, art, and both advanced reading and math. They also have a very strong resource program to help kids who need support and this is very unique to most parochial schools. The classes may be large, but they have aides and specialist teachers to lighten the load. The parent community is very involved and overall, the kids graduate and are well prepared for the future. I am very happy we chose this school.
Great school!! I couldn't be happier with my son's progress since he started going here. I can't wait until me youngest child is in kindergarten here.
We have been at Nativity for quite a while. We have two children currently at Nativity. The teachers for the most part are great. The weakest grade is 6th. The Spanish program is weak. The math program finally has been addressed with a new full-time advanced math teacher for grades 5-8. The principal is a poor business woman. She has changed considerably since we started at the school. Her focus has been all the building campaigns and not as much as the academics and integrity of the Nativity community. The community is GREAT! A very tight knit group of people that are all there for the children. The Christmas Tree Lot, Carnival, movie night, ciopinno are all great ways the community comes together. There is a strong Dad's club, too. I would still recommend the school, but not as readily as I have in the past. If we had a new principal that got us back on track, I would be very excited.
Nativity is an absolutely fabulous school. I have two children attending and cannot say enough great things about the principal, faculty and staff. The principal is always pushing the envelope-- making changes to improve the school. It's clear that she loves her teachers and I think that sets a positive, professional tone. We love the socio-economic and ethnic diversity of the school (much more diverse that even the local public schools). We live in the prestigious Menlo Park school district but choose to invest in sending our children to Nativity because of the quality of education, the warm environment, and the wonderful values they teach, and the safe, focused atmosphere they provide. In addition, the parent community is down to earth, supportive and loving. I feel lucky we can send our children to Nativity.
I can't say enough about this litlle gem of a school. The principal, teachers and the entire staff are remarkable. I have never experienced such an upbeat and positive school environment. The school community, both parents and students, are extremely grounded and diverse. The academics are absolutely steller and the best part is each child is able to express their own creatvitiy and individuality. We love Nativity School!
In short, I'm disappointed at the bullying that happens with children in all grades but even more disappointed that the principal just dismisses it. There is the illusion that it's being addressed through a program but there aren't any real changes being made. Instead of promoting positive values and an open heart with children, they get yelled at and punished without any real growth happening. This has been going on for many years and have talked to many parents with similar or greater issues. Even among all the parents addressing issues with the principal, they get dismissed and mistreated or talked down to, just like the children get treated. My advice is talk to many parents on the side before choosing a school based on the open house only. Children deserve to be seen, heard and valued not controlled, looked down on, or judged. Parents' concerns should be heard and validated and at minimum have their feelings respected.
I can't say enough great things about this school, the staff, and the wonderful families.
