Great small school with International program! We originally had our kids in one of the best school districts in the US but decided to switch to GAIS - our best decision ever! Not only the chance to learn 3 languages but also the approach to teach connected thinking is second to none. The school has big plans to move to a new campus and to expand to High School. Can't wait to see it implemented.
My daughter has attended this school since pre-school and loves it! Aside from being bi-lingual, she is learning so much through specific units that help children understand the world they live in and how they relate to it. The International Baccalaureate (IB) Program helps kids learn by doing, feeling, building, touching and utilizing their curiosity to ask questions. She has become more independent and has confidence in herself and situations that she is put it.
She is more and more comfortable speaking in front of a group and can express herself well. She hasn't even hit the 1st grade. She loves going to school and sometimes it's hard to get her to leave!!
The schools community is wonderful and they offer many fun activities throughout the year. Winterfest, Sommerfest and a St Martin's lantern parade are just of few of the fun activities.
I encourage you to consider this great school in the heart of the Peninsula.
We have two children at the school (3d and 5th grade) and have been there since preschool (8 years). We are residents in one of the top school districts in Silicon Valley, but we have been so impressed with GAIS, particularly the International Bacccalaureate (IB) program that we have kept our children at GAIS. I am not a native German speaker, but I was so impressed with the math and science results for the GAIS elementary school while my kids were at the preschool, that I gave serious consideration to keeping them there for Kindergarten. After comparing the Kindergarten program with our local school, it was no contest. GAIS won hands down, especially in the arts and music department. We have been happy campers ever since. My daughter is now in the GAIS Middle School (it starts in 5th grade), and I continue to be impressed. No worries if you are looking for a Middle School and your kids do not speak German. GAIS Middle School has an entry level track for non-German speaking students and it is very impressive. Small class room sizes, involved teachers, top academic scores and an affordable tuition are why we are here.
This school is "one of a kind". After having seen the benefits/advantages that the IB curriculum brings in comparison to other traditional teaching approaches we can only tell other parents - try it! The IB curriculum is inquiry based. It focuses on the individual child and its social emotional development. Small class sizes support that. The combination of the IB program and the language immersion creates an environment in which both of my children thrive. We enjoy being part of a parent community that is strong, authentic and makes things happen. Due to the multi-nationality all kids develop a very deep understanding and respect for cultural diversity from a very early age which makes them stand out from other kids. Parent for 3 years at GAIS
Our children have been part of this school for 8 years now and we love it. The IB program has a unique approach that allows children to learn in a way that fosters love of learning, curiosity, risk taking, self confidence, independence and our kids are thriving. The sense of community is great even for children who start in the middle of the program or during the school year. Teacher-student ratios are small and the teachers are engaged and support each child in their class to bring out the best in them. Our children are growing up in a different society, characterized by technologies that were not even invented when I grew up. They face different challenges and this school prepares them to become caring and confident world citizens.
