John Muir is an excellent school with an experienced dedicated staff and one of the best principals in the county. My son is in 2nd grade and has access to both a chess club and a science club and is challenged to do his best every week. I can recommend this school without reservations.

I have two daughters who attend John Muir, one in pre-K and one in 1st grade. I have been very happy with the teachers they have been assigned. All 3 teachers I have experienced have seemd to truly care about my children and are invested in their schooling. This school is in great need of updating. My only really strong complaint is about the office staff. The principal is great but her administrative staff seems to be lacking especially one woman in particular who is flat out rude to children and students. I think as a whole John Muir is on par with other schools in Merced and is less crowded than some of the north merced schools such as Peterson and Chenowith.

My Kindergartener entered knowing how to count up to 15 and other basic things, and almost one year later, she can count to 100, do simple addition and subtraction and write sentences. Her teacher has really worked hard with the class, and I feel that my child is ready for 1st grade.

This school is crowded and needs work on its physical plant. That being said, three of my greatgranddaughters (I have custody) have attended. The school has gone above and beyond in treating my girls as individuals and working with me to provide the best education for them. My oldest greatgranddaughter was their first physically handicapped (wheelchair and crutches) child and they worked with me to make the school accessible for her, in compliance with the law and because they wanted the best for her. Considering the demographics (largely ESL and high poverty area), and the restrictions imposed by 'No Child Left Behind', the teachers and administrators are doing a wonderful job. The school consults with parents and IEP's are worked out with respect to my girls' needs. I regret this will be our last year with John Muir. My two youngest are graduating.

My daughter is in kindergarten at John Muir School. She is already reading, writing short stories: even using ! super punctuation. It's a great school with great teachers.

My 2 children came from Bellevue School in Atwater, Ca. I think they learned way more there than here. One of my kids has started getting in trouble for not doing her homework, she's bored. If your teachers are ranked above average, why are test scores below average? My children were forced to come to this school because we relocated, I even submited a school of choice with the district and was denied, and now my kids are suffering academicaly. Someone isn't doing their job.
