Sheehy is a typical inner town central valley school where resources are limited. Caring staff don't always believe in the population they serve, but none the less commit to doing the best they know how. Leadership from the district lacks guided direction for effective academic advancement and is too politicized; but our child has taken advantage of the opportunities provided. There is a heavy self-reliance on student achievement - staff development is still at the talking stages for the most part - but intentions are good. Our child is expected to keep focus where none is provided and to leverage the strengths of the teachers where it exists. We are encouraged by the optimism expressed by parents and staff.

Sheehy has a great staff who works continuously to provide their students with a great education.

Our family is very pleased with Sheehy. You might be fooled upon first inspection. Sheehy is in a lower income part of town and is an older school, but the staff starting with their amazing principal to their teachers and their office staff are bright, articulate people who know how to teach children and are devoted to the kids. We were there one day for an assembly and watched staff lead second grade children who were waiting outside the multi-purpose room in counting by threes fours and fives. They challenge the kids and they get great results from a lot of kids who might otherwise get left behind. I would recommend Sheehy to any parent, and I would tell them tolook deeper than the area or the building. It is a great school indeed.
