I am the father of three Merced High School grads and husband to a long time teacher at Merced High. I have followed Merced High School for over fifteen years and I am now and have always been most impressed with the teaching staff and the hard work that they apply to answering the challenges with face them on a daily basis.

This is an adequate school. It provides just the right amount of education and extra curriculum. The only problem right now really is funds and more events.

People who want to berate test scores need to learn how to spell 'higher'. I am a member of MHS Class of '06 and had a great time here academically. My favorite teacher was easily Mrs. Schroeder. I had her for sophomore advanced English and senior AP English, and she's a gem of a teacher. It's ridiculous that they took her out of that position to put her as 'department coordinator', or whatever. What a waste of talent. Because of her, I got a '4' (above passing) on the AP Literature and Composition Test and am now an English major at Stanislaus State.

sorry to say, but this school has terrible academics, and if you can't graduate from MHS, then you my friend, are doomed. teachers aren't involved, and the quality of the staff is down right poor. not much of a challenge from the former school i left.

MHS has the quality of a school in a since that there are fairly high test scores and student cooperation. However, the campus has many vandalism and gang problems as well as undisciplined students with garbage. The teachers are very excellent. But however, the school GVHS has a hire test score.

Teachers are fine, but the school is on a downhill slide. School boundaries need to be changed.

The Staff and Administration at Merced High School are compasionate about education and have an unrelenting determination to help every child succeed. I was extreemly glad my children attended this school as they were well prepared for college and life in general. Thanks to the wonderful staff for all of the hard work and dedication.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

The different student groups are identified by the California Department of Education; if there are fewer than 10 students in a particular group in a school, the state doesn't report data for that group.

The different student groups are identified by the California Department of Education; if there are fewer than 10 students in a particular group in a school, the state doesn't report data for that group.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 California used the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) to test high school students' skills in English language arts and mathematics. The results for grade 10 students taking the test for the first time are displayed on GreatSchools profiles. The CAHSEE is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined by the state of California. Students must pass all parts of the CAHSEE in order to graduate from high school. If they do not pass it the first time, students have multiple opportunities to retake the test. The goal is for all students to pass both sections of the test.
