Great teachers at this school. Unfortunately the kids here are very bad. There is a lot of violence and drugs at this school and I don't believe it's a very safe learning environment.
This school is only good for its academics!! I am schocked at the profanity and drug culture this middle school has in a middle class neighborhood.!!! If your child wants to have friends he has to be a part of this party scene! I can't believe I actually sent one of my kids here in the 2008-2009 school year. He now goes to Serra Catholic along with other coto kids!!!!!
highly educated teachers, motivating classrooms, ZAP program (zeroes are prohibited - an after-school program where students finish their assignments not turned in so they do not get zeroes & therefore fail classes), very strict & anonymous bullying policy, fun lunch activities, excellent staff!
As a teacher at Newhart for five years, I can say that this school is an amazing place to teach our students. The teachers I work with are collaborative, educated, caring, and student-focused. When teachers are free to thrive in what they do (which is to teach) this helps students also to thrive academically, socially, and physically. I love Newhart!
Its a cool safe school. Mr. Knights (the principal) is fun spirted but knows how to keep a school in place
I see lots of positive changes going on at Newhart. The school is large, but the staff is very good. My son's classes are about 30-32 kids, except band, which is larger. Would I like them to be smaller? Sure, but in today's economic climate in CA/CUSD, I am glad they aren't really big. Great music program! Teachers care about making sure that students are learning and not letting them slip through the cracks. As a member of the PTA I am on campus a lot and the biggest thing that I notice is students that are having trouble get mandatory extra help at lunch and support from teachers & the admin. My son has never been turned down by a teacher when he has asked for help and teachers have made extra time to help him before, at lunch or after school. He really enjoys going to school.
Newhart is a great school because of the parent involvments and teachers. Yes, it probably does not have the smallest class rooms and not all kids will get individual attention. However, it is a school most kids will flourish and gain the knowledge to succeed in high school.
Academically it is an average school. There are some excellent teachers but my complaints to the principal about specific teachers fell on deaf ears. Gate classes are generally well behaved. Both of my children dropped out of band after 6th grade because too large classes didn't allow for any individual help. Both of my children experienced problems in getting electives they wanted. The afterschool drama program has been well received. The PTA is active and is open to parent involvement.
Newhart is a great school. It is looking better and better from previous years. It is a very comfortable environment for students. I felt totally comfortable sending my child to this school.
Music program -- outstanding. Even has a woodshop which 3 of our kids have all enjoyed -- a highlight of their middleschool years. Strong focus on preparing for high school and college.
