As a teacher, it saddens me that numbers on a standardized test determine a school's 'greatness.' A 'great school' is not and should not be defined by simply it's test scores. A 'great school' has many qualities including great teachers and staff who not only work collaboratively, but go above and beyond to help their students achieve. A 'great school' has supportive administration, and students who have a desire to learn and do better. Midland students are not perfect. But quite honestly, who is? Midland students do care about their achievement and have a genuine desire to be successful. Test scores are only one tiny piece of the pie that defines a great school. If you take all of these factors into consideration, Midland Elementary is beyond a 'great school', but awesome.

My son is a student at Midland School and has had a couple of different problems both with other students and his homework. The principal was very accessible and attentive to my concerns. His teacher who is also I believe involved in many other levels above and beyond just being a teacher was also very accessible. Mr. Ax was not only very understanding about my concerns but extended great advice on how I could help my son succeed in both his classwork and his homework. He stresses self discipline, respect, and provides a great learning environment for his students to excel. I was very excited for my son after meeting his teacher. Jonah, my son, enjoys going to school at Midland and as a concerned parent that's very encouraging.
