I can't say enough about this school. My kids switched from a nearby catholic school and we couldn't be happier with our decision. This school cares about every student and it is clear that they rate their success on the success of their students. Each grade performs individual plays with their class throughout the year so all students will learn about the arts and all will have lead parts. This instills confidence and it's no wonder each student has inner confidence. The principals for both the junior high and elementary are passionate and pro student. There are male and female teachers all individually talented and amazing people. There is something here for every student. Take a tour of the campus and you will see the detail that goes into the landscape, the library, computer labs, the drama department, science rooms, music rooms and even the lobby. You can be sure that this type of care and detail goes into the plan for your children as well. Your kids truly are receiving a gift by attending this school.
HIt and miss with elementary school teachers! First and third grade are awesome... Other than that it's good luck to you!
The small class sizes and individualized attention you recieve is outstanding, but if you are looking into sports, music, or classes more geared to the childs interests you will have a hard time getting through the high school. I love all the teachers and friends I have at Oakwood, but I don't get as many choices for classes and unless I take courses at Harker or Bellermine over the summer, Oakwood does not accept outside classes for your transcript. Just kleep in mind that theater is a huge deal at Oakwood and if your child is quiet or timid, he or she will probably not fit in with the rest of the Oakwood highschoolers. Hope this makes your decision a bit easier!!
Oakwood is a magical school. I have never experienced this level of parent involvment and caring, committed teachers, at any other school. My oldest is now in college, so I've seen lots of schools. The small class sizes are important, but it's the extra effort from the teachers that make each lesson an active learning experience. We're staying, hopefully through high school!
My three children have graduated from Oakwood eighth grade. I could not be happier with their overall school experience. They learned, explored, and grew into wonderful teenagers that excelled academically, socially, and athletically at a very competitive private high school. Oakwood gave them all of the tools to be successful!
My kids have been at Oakwood for 5 years and each year I have seen the school go further downhill. The education is spotty at best and definitely not up to par with other private schools in the area. I have removed my kids and they are now attending other private schools.
I graduated from Oakwood after being there since kindergarten. Overall I had a good experience, but I definitely had some bad teachers. The electives are great, but some of the academic classes need help. I had to take algebra again after taking it during eighth grade and not being able to understand my teacher. The school doesn't try and form to the students needs and it's just too bad if you're unhappy or having problems.
I'm still a current student here! I absolutely love this school! An amazing variety of staff, great academics, beautiful learning environment, and most of all the best place for any child to ' grow'. I have been here since the school opened, almost 10 years ago, and I couldn't think of a better place to go :D Please look into this school- it's beyond words if you ask me!
This school has its priorities straight. Excellent teachers, small class size, individual attention, varied and rich curriculum. There is a strong emphasis on the sciences, art, music, and sports. They reach out to their students and the parents and are met with enthusiasm and strong family support and involvement. Every member of the staff we've encountered is fiendly, engaged, and truly cares about our son and his academic, social, and ethical development.
